My Case For More Expansion

No offense to anyone listed, but this team would not be able to compete for quite some time.

A real expansion draft would make these teams competitive, at least to the level of this years expansions. This would just be the absolute worst case scenario, and even then you still have a couple of mostly complete teams (who may need some compensatory picks in the next draft)

While I definitely like the idea of having more teams, and teams being of a wider variation in talent, etc. I would really hate to see the league do a contraction later on. Just feels super weird if we expand and contract over and over. Messes up what is already a hard to keep track of history or just makes it weird I guess.

But that is totally based on my feelings and no data. So, take it as you will.

In all seriousness, I've thought about injuries as an option before. It would certainly make depth charts matter more and open up spots for lower earners. But unfortunately I think it would also kill retention as injured players would be likely to go IA even if they could still keep earning.

Sowhen I made recommendations for expansion based on the analysis I did, I basically said that we're on the fringe of growing by 4 teams but logistically it would be a nightmare because so much of the activity we were expanding based on are in the S21 and S22 classes. Additionally, if we failed to continue to grow at a steady rate - a definite problem for us in the past - we'd run into some issues. With the S23 class looking pretty solid now, there's definitely an argument to expand further, but I'd still caution waiting to some degree, especially now with S15 in regression. If we were to expand again, I'd probably suggest exposing S21 and having protection lists of 10 or so. My concern, still, is a lot of the depth on rosters is going to be quickly outclassed, and the casualties for those spots would be IAs, which is obviously fine

Well said. I think it would be hasty to do more expansion right now (S23) as we are yet to see a true retention rate of S22 and to some extent S21. Especially right now, everyone has a lot of free time. When life goes back to normal, we will probably see more inactives.

I think I would agree. of course I never want to lose any players but the top teams in the league right now are absolutely stacked. Even our team right now we have so many great players we are wondering how we will get everyone involved, and thats us as a rebuilding team that no one expects to make the playoffs haha!

That's an issue in both SHL and PBE right now.

This is something I've been saying for a while but raise minimum contracts so that a team can only have so many star players and let GMs take care of the rest. You want a 1200 TPE QB? Cool but now you need to choose between giving up either your star WR or 2 great defensive pieces. Selfishly it helps OL too because GMs will jump at the chance to save cap space with human OL in order to help keep their better players around.

Great GMs will still be rewarded for great GMing but it will force more tough decisions to be made that could topple dynasties and/or prop up under performing teams.

There's already decent parity here though because of the toll regression takes on players so if we do nothing we'll be fine imo.
