Training camp was hard work. Yellowknife Wraiths had a long season last year, which ended with huge celebrations. I'm not going to throw anybody under the bus here, so I will only speak for myself - I partied a lot. I turned up for the training camp in not so good shape. The main focus of the training camp was to get back in shape. Since we won the championship last year, I don't think fitness being the main focus is going to be necessarily a bad thing. We all know what we need to do during this upcoming season. I know what I need to do during this upcoming season.
Off-season with more partying and relaxation offered an important time away from football. It helped to recharge the mental side. That could be huge, the season is long and full of tough games.
The only negative of starting the training camp in less optimal shape is that it might take a while to reach the absolute prime level I was on during the playoffs, for example. However, I don't think that will be a concern since the coaches said nice things about my work ethic and even if I say so myself - I'm in pretty nice shape and ready to play again.
