(S3) - Weekend PT #2 - What's in a name?

Ryan FitzFatrick was a recent acquisition of the Yellowknife Wraiths. You'd be forgiven for thinking that this S3 NSFL Draft pickup's name was inspired by current NFL Tampa Bay QB Ryan Fitzpatrick? Is it though? absolutely not.

Fitzfatrick's unfortunate surname has been the subject of much ridicule as a child growing up. Combine his surname with his ongoing weight problems and you've pretty much got a future NSFL DT Pro Bowler.

Fitzfatrick has dealt with an onslaught of names and insults both growing up during everyday life and in his short NSFL career thus far. "Fat Ryan" "Fat Fitz" "Fatty" all accompany the +300lb DT when he steps onto the pitch.

Yellowknife fans are no stranger to supporting their favourite players and Fitzfatrick is no exception. After the news broke earlier this season that YKW favourite Zobot Bigboy17 has been training with the newly drafted rookie. Despite Bigboy17, 25 being an offensive lineman, Fitzfatrick has been helped off the pitch with dieting advice.

In a recent interview with the Yellowknife Oracle, Fitzfatrick has been cited " Bigboy17 told me not to care about what people say or yell, if anything he said my weight is an underweight issue, not an overweight " Going on further to say that " He want's me to hit the 400lb weight range before our first meaningful S3 game, claiming it will give me the edge, but to be honest I'm not sure if it's gonna be good for the longevity of my career."

Far and away, my favorite player name is Reg Mackworthy.  The last name alone is just a delight.  It’s the only name I’ve seen that I want to make into an adjective. 
Mackworthy (adj) – being of adequate desirability to put forth the required efforts in order to successfully consummate a process of seduction.
Example: “Hey, that girl from last night.  Was she hot?”  “Eh, she’s mackworthy.” 
My favorite part of that is that, by that definition, Mackworthy is the one getting it, not the pimp taking it to her.  I’m fairly confident that wasn’t intended.  I don’t think @Esa77 sat down and thought “I wanna give my character a name that suggests he’s an adequately attractive ho bag.”  I mean, points to him if he did, but I’m pretty sure he wanted the name to suggest “suave motherfucker” as opposed to “yo momma that got fucked.”

For me, though, it only gets better with the first name of Reg.  I assume it is short for Reginald.  Reginald is a glorious name by itself, but the combination of such a proper name as Reginald (which I can’t say without imagining a “sir” proceeding it) and “pimp” or “ho” delights the shit outta me every time.  Fantastic name.

Iyah Blewitt. Iyah Blewitt. I yah Blew it. I blew it. He blew it? He blew it.

Iyah Blewitt is a fantastic name for a kicker. You thought that was sarcasm? Well do you want a fucking cookie, cause of course it was sarcasm. Some say this name was imposed upon him by his father, Dick Ijust Blewitt. Some say it's because when he came out of the womb, his mother put a pinwheel in front of him, and he blew on it, and they decided to be clever with his name. Some people who say that would be wrong, because of course that didn't happen. His parents game him a beautiful name that unfortunately connected badly with his last name. Haha, Iyah Blewitt is a kicker, hah- GET OVER IT PEOPLE! God, make fun of Calkewlated Chambers III for somehow getting the nickname Cake out of that. Jesus Christ, get a life, kids. Some people are born with unfortunate names. Dick Butkus, A.D. Olphitler, Blake Bortles. Shit, stop giving the kid guff, he's good. Wow this word length is long. Regardless, Iyah Blewitt is going to be a great solid name in this league. Pun intended, but meant all the same.

Hmmm. This is hard for me, as I don't know many names, but the best would have to be Hingle McCringleberry. For most who don't know, Hingle McCringleberry was a creation of Keegan-Michael Key of Key and Peele fame. McCringleberry is a flamboyant and boasting tight end who went to Penn State and was hyped as a top draft prospect. Now, I'm a huge Key and Peele fan, and I especially enjoy their East-West bowl sketches. McCringleberry appeared in the first one. So when I heard that name, it stuck a chord for me. Honorable mentions go to Cristiano Ronaldo (who has a name fitting for a kicker/punter, as the real Cristiano Rolando is a soccer star), Eli Kamaka (I think the name is a bit funny for some reason unknown to me) and Eidur Gustavsson (That's a damn fine name right there. Good job naming your player @Kris). That's why my favorite NSFL name is Hingle McCringleberry.

Who drafts a kicker called Iyah Blewitt?

Seriously thats like drafting a QB called Thro S Interceptions, or a running back who's named Fumb elsalot. Not exactly a four leaf clover of a name. But I guess the newly branded San Jose Cats might be looking for some of that reverse mojo magic, where a shitty name makes Blewitt into an excellent kicker. Will it work? No idea, but I mean Blewitt mustve been on some serious dope shit skill level wise if he was able to be picked first round as a special team player. Even if the leagues special teams suck, thats a seriously impressive feat.

Not whats left is to see if the Sabercats picked Blewitt over guys like linebacker Julian O'Sullivan, cornerback Franklin Harris Jr., or wide recievers Trey Willie (Shaaaaameless plug) or Samuel Zhang ends up being a good investment. If Blewitt ends up becoming a stud kicker or punter, the investment STILL might be worth it, if other players picked after Blewitt become superstar level players. But who knows, Blewitt might become a game changer.

As for now, all the sabercats need is to hope to never hear: "Oh no, he Blewitt" from their fans ever.

The favorite player name of mine in the league must be Archibald Booter. It is a pretty simple name, but quite an awesome one for his career, considering he plays football. Who would have thought that a kid with the last name Booter would grow up to play on an NSFL teams as a kicker who "boots" the ball. It is either a crazy coincidence, or destiny that he ended up being in this league. I personally believe it has to be destiny because why else would someone have a last name of booter? And on top of that, his first name is Archibald! How many Archibalds have you met in your life? Because I have met 0, and he is the first one I have met. Having Archibald as the kicker for my team is great because who doesn't want a great booter on their team? Being able to come to practice every day knowing there is a guy named Archibald booter on the team really makes me smile and is another reason why I love being a part of this Yellowknife Wraiths squad. Having people like Archibald on the team with their goofy names makes it an awesome experience!

Iyah Blewitt. Pat Pancake. Big Bot. Archibald Booter. Dental Dam. These are the names of players who have joined the NSFL since its inception. Their names will ring loudly and surely over the seasons as they end their journey in the NSFL. Although each man has their merits on and off the field, there is only one man that dares to defy expectations. He will stand the test of time and his name will be etched into the NSFL history books. His name doesn’t begin to describe the disdain he has for convention. The mere utterance of his name implies he gives no ifs, ands, or buts about what you think of him. He is the man, the myth, the legend…the Archetype Schmarchetype. No that’s not a typo. His father (last name Johnson) knew what he was doing in naming his son.

His name challenges you upon speaking it. He is a player who knows no bounds and anchors the Outlaws defense the only way he knows how…like an anchor! He provides pancakes for all those who request it and even more pancakes with a side of pain for those who do not. He doesn’t fit convention, rather, he defines it. He is his own archetype. A league of his own among the elite class of himself.
