Just days before the NSFL draft, Ryan Applehort stood up on stage to talk to some select members of the press. Here is a transcript:
Reporter 1: Ryan! Ryan! I hear your relationship with Colorado management is on the rocks. Can you explain?
Ryan Applehort: I can’t confirm or deny the validity of that statement. I don’t know what the management thinks of me and I have a mixed opinion.
R2: Last season you signed an extension at the beginning of the year. Will you do the same this year?
RA: No. I’d have to say last year was a special case, designed for me to take a more team friendly pay cut. But this year, personally I realized it’s best for me to test the waters in free agency and see what happens from there.
R3: So you’re leaving Colorado?
RA: Where did you get that from? Even I don’t know the answer to that question. I’m gonna keep my options open because that’s what’s best for my career.
R4: Are there any teams you’ve already ruled out?
RA: Well, I have to say the only ones for sure that I’m not gonna be going to are NOLA and YKW since they are set at quarterback. But none of the other six teams are completely off the table. They each have their own benefits and merits to them.
R5: If you were to leave Colorado, why would you choose to?
RA: Various reasons. But one big pull away from the mountains is money. It’s not a dealbreaker at all. If I like the situation, the pitch, and what’s in it for me better then I’ll go there. But I do want to build up my bank account in my prime so I can fight off old age and regression for a long time.
R6: If you were traded, would you re-sign whenever you went?
RA: Almost 100%. They would have been willing to take a chance on me, and in my eyes that sort of thing builds trust. Unless I was turned off by something in my time there.
