While Venus Powers enjoys the Halloween season, she has never been the biggest fan of actually dressing up and going trick or treating. She usually spent her childhood Halloweens watching scary movies with her dad late into the night, and Venus plans to spend this season in much the same time. She will get into the “costume” of comfortable clothes, invite over a few friends and teammates from the Academy, and watch a marathon of scary flicks with the lights off.

One of her favorite Halloween movies is Alien, the science fiction horror movie from James Cameron. It might not be a traditional scary movie with a serial killer or ghosts, but the building suspense, horror, and eventual violence of the Xenomorph’s attack on the ship fits perfectly with the underlying mood of the holiday season. Plus, it features Venus’s childhood hero, Ellen Ripley, in the starring role. Another movie on the docket for the night will be The Shining, Stanley Kubrick’s psychological thriller. Venus loves the intensifying claustrophobia of the Outlook Hotel and the way that Jack devolves into insanity, and the final confrontation leaves plenty of chills for the entire party. Plus, there’s plenty of popcorn available for eating, and while Venus may be a pro athlete, that doesn’t mean she can’t indulge every once in a while.

Mako Mendonca for Halloween this year is going dressed as England Rugby star Billy Vunipola, he has been told by many that he looks very VERY similar to him, if perhaps a bit smaller and lighter than the Togon born england rugby superstar. And why might you ask is he dressing in this manner, it is to celebrate England making it into the Rugby world cup finals (set to take place on Saturday) where they will face off against South Africa. Mako very much enjoyed the semifinal, watching England destroy the favourites and reigning champions New Zealand 19-7 much to many people's surprise. He especially enjoyed England's response to the Haka, as teams are no longer allowed within 10 metres of New Zealand while they are performing their war dance England instead lined up in a 'V' formation so it appeared that they were out flanking the all blacks. Mako will of course head to Dixk Wizardry's Halloween party on thursday with his squad mates to have a good time. Not too much of a good time of course as on Friday we head to the Rockies to face the Yeti's as the Copperheads continue to hunt for their 1st playoff appearance.

Oh boy do I have a fun story to tell you. A couple months ago, when Zack Vega was drafted into the Marshals organization, he was subjected to a little hazing by his new teammates. It’s a very long story but basically the entire team plotted to haunt him the day before his first career start. That leads us to his revenge plan. The entire team thinks that he hates Halloween and is planning on staying home and giving kids candy, but after Zack received some insider info that the same ringleaders from the last operation were planning on getting him again, he decided on a little revenge idea. He proceeded to buy 15 haunted Waldo costumes and invited some of his friends and family to go through with his imaginative plan. He invited the team over for a Halloween party and the plan was in motion. As they all filled in, his servants took their spots in the scaring section. He welcomed them and the party went as planned. As it was ending, he said he had a group gift for everyone. He welcomed them into a large room and when everyone was in the room, every door into the room opened with scary Waldo costumes, scaring everyone and getting some very imaginative phrases, including some words not fit for this PT. They all laughed it off and the party was a success, no follow up has occurred against me, at least I hope not...

Halloween is an amazing time of the year. Tons of people are able to explore things that they would not normally do. Some can be superheroes, some can be in a rock band. It is all about being someone or something else. Hell, you can be a piece of toast if you wanted. To each their own. Bishop will be dressing as Deadpool this year. Bishop is more of a reserved person and this allows him to live out a dream of being more than that. Someone outgoing and funny. Also he gets to wear a mask so no one knows it is him. This Halloween Bishop will be spending his time in a local hospital in Boulder, Colorado outside of Denver. There he will meet and talk with children who have terminal illnesses and try to bring them a little sense of normalcy in a life that is anything but normal. So maybe for just one night Bishop can help distract these young boys and girls and give them a Halloween for the ages. Two others that will be joining Bishop are Hall of Famer Bradley Westfield from the Orange County Otters and Frank Dolomite, two time champion relief pitcher of the Minor League Baseball team, the Armadillos.
