(S19) - PT2 - Back to Reality

On the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, week two of the DSFL season could not have gone worse for us. After an extremely positive 42-6 Win in week one, we got thoroughly outplayed on all sides of the ball to lose 10-43 to the Luchadores (class of the league thus far). It started out poorly when we allowed a 78 yard punt return less than 10 minutes into the game, and got worse in the second quarter where were outscored 23-0. It's never going to be enough when you only score one touchdown on offence, but equally we can't allow two 100+ yard rushers and four offensive touchdowns and expect to win.

There were some positives to build off however, including our 367 yard total, showing our ability to move the ball. If we can finish more of those drives going forward things will look up. The other three games we've played have been much improved, as we've scored 111 points to only 32 allowed in that time and won all three. If we can keep this offensive and defensive momentum going forward the rest of the year I think we'll have a great season, and we're all excited to face the Luchadores again in our next game!

So the Colorado Yeti did start off pretty well after week 1 and we are looking overall like a play-off team and that is great so with that stated I need to look more so at Laszlo Forty-Two. In 1 specific game he went 0 catches, 0 runs and 0 Touchdowns. He did not drop anything at all. He just was not used whatsoever in that game.

This as you can tell royally fucking sucks to see. In other games since then he has been used and is just pretty meh. I can see this being yet another 500 yard season which just is not great to see. The Yeti and myself will easily state that I am above all a team player and I pride myself on making Chicago regret not picking me up earlier (Considering both picks above me abandoned them lol)

I could say TPE is an issue, I do not have the highest going but considering others in my draft class are doing really well it sucks to see I will not get close to the hall of fame whatsoever. It would have been hard anyway but I think I could have pulled it off. Either way this still is the biggest disappointment I could point too overall.

Lazzy will hopefully become a Yeti legend and get #42 retired for them and maybe a championship if anything or this was a failure.

This topic about the hope and then disappoints for how the season has started is very easy for myself and most other Copperheads. Since the team's inception we have improved last year and had hoped to continue that this year by pushing the team into a top 2 spot, but the off season had other ideas. 1st due to disciplinary problem we lost defensive tackle Ennis, fair enough we thought, we can cover that, then we lost my runningback partner in crime Owen's so our expectations were lowered even before we started the season. Our season has not started well, while the defense has performed well the offensive has not quite clicked. Personally I have not had the yards per run average I would have liked, while it has improved in recent games I have started to slow and it has frustrated me and damaged my chances for awards, at least my 4 touchdowns from the first 5 games is not to bad. The rest of the offensive is not fairing much better, Cole has thrown too many interceptions by half and has not found our top wide receiver Tidwell nearly enough and tight end Larson has only got going in the last couple of weeks. This season may prove to be a long one!

After two superstar seasons in the DSFL, Hanyadi was ready to run right through the NSFL and take the league by storm. All of that optimism lasted until the 1st game of the season. After a relatively calm rushing attack in the 1st game, it never really sped up beyond that. Weeks 2 and 3 were decent games by his standard, but he felt like he wasn't doing enough for the Wraiths. He at least scored a bunch in Weeks 4 and 5, but the actual numbers were awful. 3 yards per carry in a performance against Colorado? 2.8 yards per carry in the game against New Orleans? He just couldn't perform. The fact that he was able to score on short yardage plays didn't really help his spirits at all. At least he was able to be useful in the passing game, but even with that he was dropping far too many passes to be happy with his performance. Hanyadi was hoping to claim some kind of award later on this year, but it looks like he was going to fall behind in several categories once again. He was in no way the best runningback, and there were several rookies doing better than him on the offensive side of the ball.

I want to say that I love my team. I know my position does not garner the biggest stats. That said, I am really feeling the disappointment for Austin. He isn't getting a lot of touches. I am not seeing him get a lot of passes to him. Also, I am getting a few more penalties than I want. I can't blame anyone tho. I knew going into this what to expect. I was joining a team with a good receiving core. McCormick has 11 Reception and a total of 89 yards over 6 games. That means Austin is averaging around 8.1 yds. The average is about what I expect but 11 receptions are a tad low to me. Especially after we blew out the Arizona Outlaws 57-7, a game in which I recorded one reception for six yards. Compare that to my DSFL season, and the drop off is huge. 59 total receptions with 523 total yards and 2 TDs. I also had a few key plays that led to a few wins in games. More clutch plays I guess I would say. I didn't expect to just be at the top, but I was not ready for this drop-off.

Week 1 for Myrtle Beach overall was fantastic. Week one for Jacoby Clay however, was fairly tame. Since week 1, we have implemented a very run heavy approach. And for good reason. Both of our RB's are well over 300 rushing yards through 4 weeks, and have a combined 8 touchdowns. Fantastic showing from the run game thus far. However, I have taken the backseat to the game plan, while also playing second fiddle to our Star WR Gordon. While I am a rookie, I expected a bit more out of myself. There are a couple of things I plan on doing to get myself ready for the upcoming games.

1) Limit the drops.
When my number gets called, I need to deliver. I need to focus on securing the ball first and foremost. I've been much more focused on what I'm going to do after after the catch which leads to me failing to secure the ball. Minimizing my mistakes will maximize my output and make me a greater asset to the team.

2) Push through the fatigue.
On long drives, I have been getting sluggish. This can open a door to much bigger problems. From here on out, I am going to pace myself and conserve energy when I can. I can't contribute to the team when I am stuck on the sideline.
