As we now face a rapidly changing, exciting time in the NSFL and DSFL. I thought it might be fun to take a look at some potential franchise names and locations across the land. My focus here will be on some markets that are as of right now untapped by the NSFL, and have a lot of potential fans to grab. So lets stop talking about why I’m doing this (although you might ask in the comments anyways), and show some potential NSFL franchises.
1. Maine Blue Moose
This one is kind of a meme, but at the same time I think fits the bill for a SL franchise. This franchise would be playing out of Portland, Maine, and would be sporting a clean deep blue main jersey color, with cream accents. Specifically, I’d have the helmets carry a pair of antlers on either side, making the players look like moose themselves. A city ripe for football, Portland has supported 3 high school teams, and 2 semi-pro teams in real life. They’ve also supported 2 minor league hockey teams, and a D-League basketball team in recent years. We are lacking a North Eastern team in the NSFL, and I think Maine would make a good starting place to grow the league in the New England market.
The name “Blue moose” is a play off of the saying “once in a blue moon”. This “blue moose” name also comes from my friend being an idiot, and saying he had seen something “once in a blue moose” while drunk during my senior year of high school. Imagine how electric it would be to see a team running out of the tunnel behind the sounds of a moose (Now you’re thinking about how a moose sounds).
2. Attleboro Atillas
The Atillas would be playing out of Attleboro, Massachusetts. While you might be asking “hey, what does Atila the Hun have to do with Attleboro, Massachussetts?”. It’s a good question, and on the surface, it’s nothing. When you go a little deeper, it’s still nothing, but it does sound really cool. The suburbs of Boston actually used to be quite fierce, and the Atilla name could be adopted by those NSFL hungry Bostonians.
The team would sport a Red/Black/Gold color scheme, striking fear into the hearts of all other teams they play against. I personally don’t know how PC having a person dressed up as Atilla the hun riding on horseback out onto the field and throwing down a spear would be, but the Atillas would have that going on pre-game. Striking fear into the hearts is the game of the Atillas, and that’s before any football is even played.
3. South China Capybaras
The capybara might be the hottest animal in the streets right now. Even though the animal is Australian, I feel like we could see one in South China at some point, you know? Also, South China is also in Maine, not China. I bet I got you with that one, huh? Pretty weird how many country names we have in my god forsaken state. South China is a small village right outside of the state’s capitol of Augusta, so there is quite a market for football to be had!
The Capybaras would be styled out in a Brown jersey with black accents, which I know isn’t the most original scheme, but that’s how a capybara looks. The most exciting part about the capybaras would be the team capybara mascot. You know Ugga the Bulldog, the Lion from LSU, but what about Mainer the capybara! Social media would eat that up.
If I were to recommend one particular franchise to the GM’s it’d for sure be the blue moose. You can’t beat that name, it’s legitimately one of the best franchise names I’ve ever came up with. Imagine that beautiful full moon logo with a looming Moose perched in the foreground. That echoing, physically terrifying moose call on 3rd downs. Electric.
