The Chicago Butchers drafted 35 players in the S22 NSFL Draft. Chicago's earliest pick was in the 2nd round, which they used to pick Beson Bayley Jr., Butchers GM BayleyIsland's player. Chicago did not have any draft picks after that until the 6th round. With these picks, the Butchers will attempt to rebuild their roster and hoped to find cornerstone players for their future in hope to compete for the Ultimus. This article will be recapping the first 10 players picked by the Butchers in the S22 NSFL Draft.
Round 2
BayleyIsland - Benson Bayley Jr. - LB (
)
Benson Bayley Jr. was the player the Chicago Butchers selected with their first pick of the S22 NSFL Draft. The former Dallas Birddogs linebacker will look to start immediately for the Butchers’ revamped lineup under new GM BayleyIsland. Bayley Jr. had the least tackles out of three of Birddogs’ linebackers with 99 tackles in 14 games played. However, he was able to rack up 10 sacks, 3 tackles for loss and a safety against opposing teams. He also showed his versatility by covering opposing receivers with 10 passes defended. Bayley Jr. will most likely be playing immediately as a linebacker that will be doing multiple things during a game. Expect him to give bone-crushing hits to not only QBs and running backs but also to wide receivers and tight ends.
Round 6
Indonesianhusker - Julio Tirtawidjaja - RB (
)
Julio Tirtawidjaja, the first Indonesian-born DSFL player, will officially become the first Indonesian-born NSFL player as the Chicago Butchers selected him with their second pick of the S22 NSFL Draft in the 6th round. The 66th overall pick has certainly put his name out there, even with the lack of production on the field in the S21 DSFL season. His lack of production in the DSFL was the result of playing in a stacked backfield behind NOLA Second Line’s Ed Barker and fellow rookie Richard Gilbert. However, Tirtawidjaja has shown hard work and willingness to be coached while also being a good locker room presence toward his teammates. Several NSFL teams had high interest in him based on his potential, including the Butchers who spent their second pick of the draft to get him. Tirtawidjaja has been training hard in the offseason with the hopes of catching up for lost time when he was AWOL prior to the S21 DSFL Draft, in order to get ready to play in the S22 NSFL season. With only Farley Hank in the backfield, Tirtawidjaja will get a lot of playing time with Chicago and immediately get himself adjusted to the pace of NSFL football.
Round 7
IthicaHawk - Hamish MacAndrew - S (
)
Hamis MacAndrew was selected by the Chicago Butchers in the 7th round. The strong safety will look to start immediately to help the Butchers’ secondary unit ahead of the S22 NSFL season. The former Dallas Birddogs had the highest number of tackles among this rookie class’ strong safeties with 69 tackles in the S21 DSFL season. He also had an interception and one pass defended. MacAndrew has certainly developed really well during his time with the Birddogs. He also has elite speed and agility that will certainly help him going against NSFL wide receivers. MacAndrew can keep up physically with the wide receivers he will face next season.
juicychase - Simeon Works - DE (
)
The Chicago Butchers spent their fourth pick in the S22 NSFL Draft by selecting Defensive End Simeon Works from the London Royals in the 7th round. Works was able to rack up 29 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 3 sacks in his 14 games played in the S21 DSFL Season. He has the physicality to compete against offensive linemen and get to his target, whether it be bullrushing or running around them. He will need to increase his endurance to keep up with the pace of the NSFL and still be able to generate pressure late in the games.
Round 8
Evok - Sam Sidekick - KP (
)
Norfolk Seawolves’ Sam Sidekick was picked by the Butchers in the 8th round. Sidekick was the third K/P selected, behind Matthew McDairmid and Kal Solarin. He will start immediately as the Butchers kicker and punter as he is the only one in the roster. Sidekick was perfect in kicking extra points, making 40 out of 40 in the last DSFL season for the Seawolves. He also only missed 4 field goals throughout the season and made 5 out of 5 from the 40-49 yard range. Sidekick has tremendous accuracy but will need to work out to increase his kicking power. His abilities will certainly help the Butchers’ offense in adding more points on the board from far.
Round 9
stupiduglyidiot - Abbas Muhammad - S (
)
Abbas Muhammad was picked in the 9th round by the Butchers. Muhammad was teammates with Bayley Jr. and Hamish MacAndrew, playing together in the Birddogs defense. He was able to rack up 59 tackles during the S21 DSFL season. Lining up as a cornerback, Muhammad was able to get 2 interceptions and defended 10 passes thrown at him. Although, his speed and agility can still be improved to make him an elite secondary player, he is quite intelligent and can use his football IQ to compensate for his lack of physical ability by being in the right place to defend against opposing wide receivers.
Round 10
LimJahey - Von Hayes - TE (
)
Von Hayes was selected by the Butchers in the 10th round to become their starting tight end for the foreseeable future. The former Pythons will slot into the starting lineup right away to an empty tight end depth chart. Hayes was quite productive in the DSFL for the Pythons, scoring three touchdowns in 14 games played. He had 38 catches for 204 yards. His catching ability will help the Butchers extend offensive drives and also do occasional blocking to protect the QB and help the running backs in rushing.
Round 11
sreddy969 - Shawn Ansari - TE (
)
Chicago picked another tight end back to back by selecting Minnesota Grey Ducks’ Shawn Ansari in the 11th round. Ansari has not developed a lot and most likely will spend an extra season in the DSFL, depending on how many tight ends the Butchers’ playcallers will implement in their playbook. Ansari’s production in the DSFL was not that impressive with 6 catches for 37 yards. He will provide depth for the Butchers if he stays active and reaches serviceable level to back up Von Hayes in upcoming NSFL seasons.
TheCC - Tyron Shields - CB (
)
Tyron Shields, another Minnesota Grey Duck, was selected by the Butchers in the 11th round after Shawn Ansari. The cornerback has developed quite slowly and will benefit from an extra season in the DSFL. Reports have said he is often late to training and allegedly have missed multiple training sessions as well. He was able to get 30 tackles in 14 games played and also defended 5 passes thrown at him. If he becomes active again, he might become a tremendous help for the Butchers’ defense.
Round 12
sebsal - D'Brickashaw Cannon - DE (
)
The Chicago Butchers picked defensive end D’Brickashaw Cannon in the 12th round. His name itself makes him worth drafting. He was able to perform quite well given his lack of activity and development. He had 29 total tackles for the season, 14 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and 2 fumble recovery. He will stay in the DSFL with the Luchadores and if he becomes more active, he will be a steal as his talent and potential can be seen in glimpses in his rookie season in the DSFL.
Round 2
BayleyIsland - Benson Bayley Jr. - LB (
