(S23) - PT2 - Draft Day

Leading up to the draft was the most fun experience I have had thus far in the NSFL/DSFL. As a new player I did not expect much attention as there may have been rebuilds by proven players going into the S23 DSFL draft this year. I was recruited by a slew of teams, and I was open to any of them. All I knew was that I wanted to be in the position to compete for the Ultimini. I built my player leading up to the draft, taking advice from many colleagues in the league. On draft night I watched the first round go by with multiple linebackers chosen in the first round. I was disappointed as I expected it meant I would fall even farther. I was thrilled to be announced in the back of the second by the London Royals. One of my top choices for where I would end up, I fit in right away in the locker room. On a defense filled with returning players in the secondary, and a solid linebacking core, my player is a great addition to an already stacked defense. The draft was an exciting time, but now all eyes are forward toward the Ultimini, and after that, the NSFL draft.

Leading up to the DSFL draft was probably the most fun I’ve had in this league, which has since stagnated due to my loss of interest. It was very exciting to have to compete against my fellow rookies in an attempt to get a team to try and draft us. I miss that time, because it was probably the most exciting week of my time here in the NSFL so far. I am now a player in the NSFL on my sophomore season at the senior level, and it is also very ok. It has been quite ok since my time in the DSFL, but the draft was also very fun. I enjoyed it very much, probably more so than my NSFL draft because it was less fun. The excitement just wasn’t there for me anymore at that point, since we didn’t really have to compete against anyone. Our draft positions were pretty much set in stone. Competing against other rookies was pretty exciting. Since then, it’s been pretty ok. The DSFL draft was a really fun time, to be honest. It really was. I wasn’t really that shocked about my draft position, and I thought I went way higher than I would’ve gone. I went to a team that I thought would be cool to be on, and it was, until my former GM got drunk and ranted about how I was a locker room cancer in another team’s LR. The draft has really impacted my player in a variety of ways, such as the team that I currently play for and am very happy to be on. That is one of the one ways that the draft has impacted my player. It was very fun.

After just being drafted into the National Simulation Football league, it is still crystal clear in my memory how it went down. Sitting around with fellow rookies Tychondrius Hood and veterans such as Jamar Lackson who had already been drafted, it was a room filled of joy and tension. After Hood went at pick 6, the room turned to when I was gonna be picked. Consensus was late first round or very early second but those picks came and went, Yeti going OL at pick 12 making people in the room very perplexed. Start of the second round, the first couple of picks again were not me, I was slipping. I knew Wide Receivers were not a big need, but I had some massive potential and talent, one of the highest in the class. The second round continued, and the nerves were through the roof, how far would I slip? By the time a second OL was picked, I was really questioning where I would go, my heart sunk to be set on falling out of the second round all together. That’s when a trade was announced, Wraiths take pick 22 for their two third round picks, and out of that trades they picked me, Kai Sakura to add to their championship level roster. I was relieved to know my future was in good hands. I was excited to get ready to fight for my spot and prove that I was worth the trade and I would prove myself worth it.

For the S22 NSFL draft, I was excited to see the outcome of my improvements in the DSFL. I was by no means a max earner, but I was becoming more active, and started to really get the hang of the league. I was seeing mock drafts of me going around the 86th pick, which I was excited for, it was around 20-30 picks earlier than what I was drafted in the DSFL. When draft night came around I started the night off excited, I was gonna go earlier than I did the season prior and was feeling like I could become a starter in the league one day. After the first 6 rounds I was on the edge of my seat, I knew I wasn't an early round talent, so I had no problem waiting until the middle rounds to get drafted, but the seventh round came and passed, then the eighth, ninth, and finally in the tenth round, I get the call from the Butchers. At the time I wasn't too happy about where I was selected, but I used that as fuel to make every other team that passed on me regret it. I know that the Butchers are a young team that need to develop, but I am committed to the process, and our team as a whole is ready to prove ourselves to the rest of the league.
