At the conclusion of the season, I, Rod Tidwell will be announcing my retirement from the International Simulation Football League. I want to get out here and talk to you all a little bit about Rod Tidwell and what this game of football means to him. When Rod Tidwell was a boy, all he wanted to be was to play football and by golly did he ever. He grew up in Arizona, his home, if you do not know Rod Tidwell was Arizona, he went to Arizona State, he played pop warner there, he wanted to make his family and his life there. Unfortunately, Arizona decided to pass on Rod Tidwell early on in his career. When Rod Tidwell was entering the draft, he was certain his state wouldn’t let him down, how could they not draft him. He after all was Arizona, but it was not meant to be. Since then Rod Tidwell has found his home elsewhere and boy is, he glad that Arizona decided to give up on him.
Instead Rod Tidwell was drafted to a new team in Austin Texas. This was weird for Rod Tidwell, as he grew up in Arizona. He naturally grew up hating Texas, but it seems that Texas new what Rod Tidwell was, so he would adapt. Now Rod Tidwell came to love Austin more than Arizona, I mean they wanted him, so he wanted to be there. So, Rod Tidwell became all about Austin, he settled down, bought a house, had kids, in essence Rod Tidwell became Austin. Now the important part of this story you might be missing is that Rod Tidwell loves family, he desires respect, but most of all he wants that one thing… Kwan. Kwan in essence is the respect, love, and admiration of your peers all balled into one thing. Rod Tidwell wanted the Kwan.
Now early in his days in Austin, I’m not going to lie were really rough. We were a new team who were just trying to survive, but Rod Tidwell did more than just survive… He thrived. Every chance he got, he excelled, worked harder, and in turn so did Austin. Soon, he was up in the top of the league for many different things. What’s crazy is so was Austin, with the growth of Rod Tidwell, so did Austin. Now is where Rod Tidwell gets emotional.
The Austin Copperheads are Rod Tidwell and Rod Tidwell is the Austin Copperheads. He has been with them since they were created. 8 long seasons in Austin and it has been such a crazy ride. Austin has seen a lot of ups and downs, but Rod Tidwell never wavered. He was Austin and Austin was him, this is important to Rod Tidwell. All the personal accolades and potentials were out there, but Rod Tidwell put his trust in Austin and they put their trust in him.
Now with the closing of the season… It is time for Rod Tidwell to say goodbye. Goodbyes are not sad, but are just a marker for new experiences. Rod Tidwell is excited for his new chapter in life and hopefully in Austin. Excitement for the future, but this is not over yet. Austin has at least one more hill to climb and it is a big one. The Ultimus Cup is within their reach for a second time. Rod Tidwell knows one thing and this is something he is sure of… Austin can do it, they will do it, and he will do it with them for if there is anything that Rod Tidwell knows is… Trust in the Team… WE BUILD HOUSES.
Thank you Austin Copperheads. Thank you Joe, Adam, Mooty, Dermo, Tomas, Dizzy, Finn, Beaver, Kyle, tlk, ryan… and whoever else I missed. Thank you for an amazing career, thank you for allowing me to be a part of an amazing team, franchise, locker room, and everything else. This league would have been off my radar and I would have left a long time ago if it wasn’t for you. I’ve said this privately but I’ll say it now publicly, AUSTIN IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE LEAGUE. Thank you.
