S26 ISFL Draftees Renaming – The Social Media Name Generator Edition
This post is shamelessly inspired by @"Dogwood Maple"‘s S26 ISFL Draftee Renaming – Anagram Edition and my social media feed this morning. Every time I think that social media has evolved beyond random personality quizzes or name generators, another one pops up. And I thought I might as well have some fun with combining this with the players of my ISFL draft class who have already been mocked by @JBLAZE_THE_BOSS for their terrible choice of footballer names. Hence, the S26 ISFL draftees renaming – social media name generator edition.
For this low-effort article, I used the following process. First, I chose four cliques for whom I have seen comical name generators on my social media feed in the past: Hobbits, Strippers, Pirates, or Rappers. Second, I assigned each ISFL team to one of these cliques. This assignment is completely subjective and based on my first association of team to clique. Next, the first name and last name (or last initial) of each draftee were input into their team clique’s online name generator:
Association of Teams to Cliques
Here I assign each of the 14 ISFL teams to one of the four chosen cliques: Hobbits, Strippers, Pirates, and Rappers. I give word associations or one sentence reasons for each assignment, but note that I was constrained by wanting an even distribution of teams across cliques and I didn’t give this very much thought. So here we go:
Arizona Outlaws – Rappers – outlaws have bandanas, which rappers might wear on their heads
Austin Copperheads – Hobbits – copperheads live in the ground like a hobbit hole
Baltimore Hawks – Hobbits – the many anime watchers on this team probably love high-fantasy worlds; also this is my team and I am a huge Lord of the Rings nerd
Berlin Fire Salamanders – Rappers – because they spittin’ straight fire (thanks @Maglubiyet)
Chicago Butchers – Pirates – cleavers are shiny metal and shiny metal attracts pirates, who also have swords
Colorado Yeti – Hobbits – I have never seen a yeti nor a hobbit outside of fiction
Honolulu Hahalua – Strippers – male strippers find their moms attractive, right?
New Orleans Second Line – Strippers – Mardi Gras; music and dancing, that is likely exotic and raucous
New York Silverbacks – Rappers – East Coast hip-hop; Jay-Z; the original “hood”
Orange County Otters – Strippers – Hollywood; “it girls” and “valley girls”
Philadelphia Liberty – Rappers – Will Smith; Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; freedom of speech is Philadelphia’s major export
Sarasota Sailfish – Pirates – neither are landlubbers; all about that seafaring life
San Jose Sabercats – Hobbits – San Jose is the heart of Sillicon Valley, home of many dorky software engineers who probably like Lord of the Rings… so hobbits
Yellowknife Wraiths – Pirates – Pirates of the Caribbean has some ghostly ghoulish pirates; plus if you squint really hard the wraiths logo kind of looks like a skull and crossbones
