I didn't forget our anniversary

I created my player on the 17th February 2020, one year ago today (I know it says 16th February if you're in the US but the International Simulation Football League should run on universal time, not EST). Lots of us have spent most of the last year stuck inside and have a story about how much they've appreciated the league during this time. Here's mine.

My nightmare actually began earlier in 2020. At the beginning of January I was suddenly made homeless. I was in a legal dispute with my then-landlord, who changed the locks while I was out. Thankfully a friend stepped up and offered me his sofa to sleep on for a few days until I sorted things out. I'd been working part-time, and the place I worked for received funding to make my position full-time and decided to interview outside candidates as well as me. The next week, I found out one of the outside candidates was getting the job and I was no longer employed.

So as of mid-January I was now homeless and unemployed. Quite a couple of weeks. I began looking for a new job, and didn't have any luck for the first few weeks. Without a job, I couldn't get a new place to live. News about this virus that was ravaging parts of China had been becoming more and more prominent throughout, and in February it hit Europe. Which was when my prospects of getting a job seemed to hit nil.

I eventually found a new job in June, and while I'm thankful for the league for the whole of the last year, I'm particularly thankful for those four months where I was locked down in someone else's house with very little to do - with most of my stuff stored with friends or behind locked doors. I had my laptop and not much else, so I wrote 39,963 words of media and spent countless hours on discord. Having people to talk to, and a productive and creative outlet in the form of media and league jobs was really helpful. Thank you to everyone who gave me ideas, read anything I wrote, replied to it or was part of a job team I was on.

Both my DSFL and ISFL drafts were during this period, so I spent a lot of time in the Myrtle Beach and Philadelphia locker rooms, as well as the general discord and rookie chat. I loved it, and still love all the league discords and everyone in them.

There are far, far too many people for me to thank everyone who's had a positive effect on me. So I'll thank the people responsible for me joining the league and the three teams I've been on. @iamslm22, thanks for making that r/NFL post that made it to the front page. Sorry I played your player at left tackle that one time. @Frostbite and @scorycory, thank you for drafting me to Myrtle Beach. Frost, you made the locker room incredible and Cory, you're the reason we won that championship. Finding a single day in the last eleven and a half months where I've not sent a message in the server would be difficult, and the success and impact on the league of that draft class is a credit to the two of you. I love you both and your misconduct. @Hallmonitor_20 and @TubbyTim69, thank you for drafting me to Philadelphia and for believing in me enough to trade up for me. I loved the locker room you built and all the users you brought to the team. You both deserved far, far more success than you had on the field. I'm glad we got to take Gimmy (and the rest of that team) to a playoff game before he retired. I don't know if you'll see this but @roastfuego, thank you for GMing with me in Philly and I wish things had turned out better. Hope you're doing okay. @jeffie43 and @Laser, thank you for bringing me to Orange County. Your vision and dedication was incredible and sorry that me and Blas are about to break the streak. Jeff, I'd somehow not played with you until last season (especially weird given your history of tampering literally everyone) and I've loved finally being on a team with you. Even if your player has sucked ever since he changed his name. You're one of the best people in the league. Laser, I wish we'd talked more before I joined Orange County - you're far more measured and articulate than I am and everything you do to make the league a better place is very much noticed by myself and others. I'm glad we get to share another locker room now. @Blasoon, thanks for GMing with me. I've lasted as long as I did in my first GM stint now! I maintain that there is no one in the league better at or more thorough when scouting, and I was so, so happy to be reunited with you after our time together in Philly. I really appreciate all you've done for me and for the team so far.

Finally, everyone else: Thank you for being here. Thanks for helping me, talking to me, laughing with me, making me cool signatures, arguing with me, playing games in VC with me, and everything else that's made the last year enjoyable. Because of it, even starting 2-7 in a sim that makes less than no sense to me can't kill my enthusiasm.

It really has been a crazy year hasn't it. You're one of my favorite people in the league, mori, and one more reason the S22 CB class was so legendary. glad you got over what happened last year and hopefully you're in a better place now
