It's pretty innocuous but saying "we will try to get cook" then it becomes a tamper clause because cook now has contract leverage to either resign high in San Jose or not sign in the belief that the wraiths will get him.

I think you have to go with NFL rules which state that

Tampering occurs when the owner, general manager or anyone involved with player acquisition directly mentions or hints at acquiring a player not through a channel that would influence a player to take an action that may affect how they approach their next contract.

For example, if @Bzerkap posts here that he wants Cook, that's tampering.  Because it allows Cook to know that he has an option either through trade or through contract expiration to join Yellowknife.

However, if I post that I would like Cook on the team, it's not tampering.  I have 0 influence on roster makeup.

It does make sense, but I think the larger problem is that people would just find a way around that. In this case, a GM who wanted to say something and get away with it would ask a player to say something.

It really boils down to people just not being shitty, because no matter what wording we use people will find a way around it if they want to badly enough, which blows when everyone is here on a fake football league to have fun and enjoy themselves.
