(S2) - PT #5 - Most Improved

Well I am new here so I don't know anyone, so I will write about Kristoffer O'Sullivan, because my sister is the only one I know so far.

I don't know how much she has really improved but based on the countless hours I see her spending here, she must be pretty good by now. She is quite obsessed really and I know she writes a lot of articles.

I really don't know what to say about her player but as a person she has vastly improved, I can tell you that. She is far less annoying now that she has no free time anymore. So really I have to thank you guys for bringing her some joy and giving her something to do instead of bothering me all day.

I also think she has improved in other ways, more stress eating from not having enough interceptions. So her player still has room to improve I bet, otherwise that stress eating will get out of hand quickly.

I am sorry if this is too much on the humorous side but I am still trying to learn everything here and am trying my best. In reality I know she has spent a lot of time here and that must have given her a lot of improvement. She never wants to miss anything and I bet the player is awesome too!

There has been a key figure in the Hawks defence this season whose impact has increased exponentially from last term. A player who is on course to almost triple his tackles, after taking himself from being a "decent player" to elite tier over the course of a single off-season. That player is Erasmo Broadway. It's hard to really determine how much of Broadway's improvement is down to the changes in environment in Baltimore -- new management, changes to the play scheme, improved supporting cast -- and how much is down to the player himself and his constant desire to improve.

With one game left this season, the Hawks linebacker needs just six more tackles to triple the thrity-nine he racked up throughout the entirety of last season. Some have suggested that with his off-field responsibilities reduced, the Notre Dame alumnus has been able to focus more on being the best backer he could be. Notably, Broadway's ability to read the game has improved significantly, presumably owing to the increased number of hours he has spent in the tape room, studying the opposition. From a relatively quiet figure on the league's worst team, to five team of the week appearances and a near-lock for the Pro Bowl a year later. If that's not worthy of being considered "most improved" ... what is?

S2's most improved player is the one and only Dominic Verns. Verns was a good player last year, however with a slow start. Playing at free safety and a few snaps at WLB he finished with a modest 64 tackles, 1 TFL, 4 sacks, 1 int, and 1 pick 6. It was enough to land him a spot on a pro-bowl roster. But Verns wanted more, and the Otters knew that as one of their most promising young players they needed to figure out how to get him involved more in the defensive gameplan. So when season 2 rolled around and the Otters lost key linebacker Arby Krimlaw to the expansion draft, they decided not to fill the slow with another linebacker. They plugged in Verns.

As one of the fastest players on the Orange County team Verns excelled playing as a WLB in 4-3 and as a nickel corner in the 4-2 nickel. With 13 games in the books so far this season Verns has now totaled 92 tackles, 9 TFLs, 10 sacks, and 2 interceptions. While his passing stats don't show improvement on the statline (but the improvement is there), the obvious change between seasons is how much he is involved in the run game and as an edge threat. Running backs who decide to try there hand at the weakside of the formation have learned to beware headed towards Verns' gap, because he is going to appear in it and take you down for a loss. And when quarterbacks drop back to pass they are constantly worried about the duo of Harris and Verns coming in from the strong and weak side with lightning speed, it doesn't matter if you're as fleet of foot as Ethan Hunt or as big as Mike Boss, Verns might be light but he hits like a truck and will drill your quarterback backwards for an extra 5 steps when he makes the sack.

With season 2 almost finished and in the books and a big time playoff game coming for the Otters against Arizona Verns is looking to add some serious playoff stats to his line and prove that he is the top moneybacker in the NSFL. @Roshambo

Paul DiMirio may not be the most dominant tight end. Actually, we don’t need to be charitable there. He isn’t the most dominant by a long shot. However, as the only productive tight end not currently suspended from the NSFL, he is worth taking a look at. DiMirio, a receiving tight end with negligible blocking ability, has had a very rough start in the NSFL. He’s made things even rougher for his quarterback, allowing FIVE sacks. For the sake of comparison, every other tight end in the league COMBINED has allowed SEVEN. Obviously, with that kind of blocking ability, one has to wonder why they haven’t benched him. If you are thinking it’s because he was such an asset in the passing game, you were wrong. Over his first 6 starts, DiMirio combined for 113 yards and zero touchdowns. He was, statistically, the worst starting tight end in the league. Philadelphia seemed to see something in him, though, and kept him out on the field. I’d say that gamble has paid off. Over the last six games, DiMirio has caught for 315 yards, almost triple his per game rate at the start of the year, and recorded his first touchdown. His blocking still needs improvement, but he is definitely developing into one of the better threats to line up in the slot.

Tim Pest is the most improved player of season 2. As an offensive lineman last season Tim Pest allowed a league-leading 12 sacks. He was far and away the least effective lineman in the passing game, and was about as useful as a collander on a sinking rowboat. Tim Pest left season 1 frustrated and downtrodden, wondering if what had gone wrong. Enter season 2 Tim Pest rose to the challenge as a new man, one who could now rival Angus Winchester's strength, and has proceeded to dominate in the passing game and not allow a single sack so far this season even while playing on the team with the most passing attempts in the league. With the Outlaws' previous offensive line leader Alex Thomas becoming less and less mentally involved this season Tim Pest stepped up into that role and has developed top be a better player than the man he is replacing. As the regular season winds down to a close and the Outlaws have home field advantage clenched we will look to see if the new and improved Tim Pest can handle the pressure of the postseason and once again show that he is world class championship material.

The most improved played for S2 is Ardie Savea. The young running back was picked up late by the San Jose SaberCats in S1 and didn't really do much on the field. He managed to score 1 touchdown but other than that he was vastly underwhelming, netting just 5 yards on 2 carries for a 2.5 yard average. He added 2 catches to his stat line but only managed 1 single yard receiving. S2 is a whole different storm for Adie Savea though. The lead running back for the struggling Las Vegas Legion has been a consistent producer and has shown the growth needed out of a potential star. He currently has 214 carries for 684 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. In the receiving game he has added 11 catches for 103 yards. He has done all of this while sharing time with another top rookie running back, Kyle Cobb. Cobb is a superior receiver but has only achieved 38 yards on 13 catches, vastly behind the receiving production of Ardie Savea. Comparing on the ground, Kyle Cobb has 99 carries for 371 yards, showing that Savea is clearly the lead dog in the Las Vegas Legion backfield.

This year, the most improved player should go to King Bronko. @ADwyer87

A S1 Receiver who netted only 400 yards at the Wide Receiver #3 position before switching to Quarterback nearing end of the season. Bronko made the switch when the questions arose about the starting Quarterback at the time, Vincent Draxel. Bronko was only called on for 8 attempts, where he completed seven passes on eight attempts for 71 yards with a 103.6 passer rating, showing early that he had the skills to make the switch successfully.

This season, King Bronko his passing yards aren't turning any heads, but his team currently sit at #1 in the NSFL, #1 in Scoring Offense and are favorites to win the Ultimus Cup. He has went 244/444 with 2649 yards which isn't top of the league, but when your defense gets you great starting field position, you don't need to amass too many passing yards. Bronko sits a top the league throwing 22 touchdowns, spreading them around to six different receivers. Bronko shows his great decisions making and willing to take risks while also going big when needed. Bronko is also tied with Bercovici for the longest completed pass, at 54 yards.

The Baltimore Hawks as a team have many candidates for most improved. As stated throughout the thread Erasmo Broadway has been an absolute beast this year in spite of having a a mediocre season 1 statistical season. However there is a player who is a start on the offensive side of the ball who has gone relatively unnoticed in this thread. Cooper Christmas was decent last year, going for 705 yards and two TDs. This however he has been the force holding the Hawks force together. Christmas is twelfth in receptions at 61 and is sixth in the league in receiving, while scoring five TDs through the air.

Christmas this year has been a member of the always open club, whenever Scrub Kyubee needs a tough first down, or wants to look down field Christmas is the guy that he turns to. With the suspension of Carmel Gibson Christmas has been stepped up and helped the Hawks Offense stay afloat. Christmas is a likely Pro Bowler and with the Hawks guaranteed to host the NSFC championship game we can see how Christmas does in his first playoff appearance. If he has a strong game against Colorado or Yellowknife the Hawks receiver could help lead the team to a shocking appearance in the Ultimus.

What? I can't talk about myself in this one? Are you kidding me? Do you know how much I've blown up? I lead Linebackers in Interceptions and in Sacks.... (I really should charge @ADwyer87 a lot to resign me).... but fine I won't do me. Ok, who to pick.... who to pick....


I think I will choose my main man Arbin Asipi @DeathOnReddit. Now, many of you may be thinking right now; "Who the hell?" "What position does he play?" "Isn't he that DT on the Outlaws who got carried to the Ultimus game?"

Honestly, I might have agreed with some of those statements last season. This season, I can't agree to a single one. Arbin Asipi is my most improved player and the Arizona Outlaws best Project player as he has had an incredible Sophomore growth spurt.


Just look at the statistics:


In 14 Games last season Arbin Asipi had a total of 37 tackles. He also acquired 2 Tackles for losses, zero forced fumbles, zero fumble recovered, and a measly 4 sacks on the season. Nothing more nothing less; he did help us reach the Post-Season and win the Ultimus but he just didn't have the amazing year we or HE envisioned.


Look at him now this season:

In only 12 Games played my good friend Arbin Asipi is not only the first person listed in Alphabetical order on the individual defensive statistics sheet but he has also grown into a better defensive tackle.

In 12 games he has acquired 35 solo tackles, 2 Tackles for losses, 1 forced fumbles, 2 fumbles recoveries, 7 SACKS (YES, 7 SACKS AT THE DEFENSIVE TACKLE POSITION; Aaron Donald had 8 last season a Geno Atkins had 9). It's not just on defense that he has stepped up, Arbin Asipi has also shown his face on special teams. He has one blocked punt! That stuff isn't easy to do but he has done it!


What has really impressed me about Arbin Asipi the most is how his attitude has changed, the dude has really stepped up and has really been serious about earning TPE. A lot of people would become discouraged by S2 having a lot of TPE, S1 have 250+ TPE and S3 coming along as well; yet not Arbin. The dude knows he can be elite even at his position as DT. He is honestly one of my favorite teammates to talk to and (he may not think it) a real embodiment of what the Arizona Outlaws stand for .
