Surprise Power Rankings! You may say, but tlk, why? The draft is in less than 24 hours. Well this is the pre-draft power rankings.
1.
Arizona Outlaws ?0
The Outlaws have the easiest job in the world, just not fuck it up. But the sun sets on all dynasties at some point, and we shall see what happens. For now? May not happen, smart contracts have so far kept the gang together, but there are a few teams that can take the crown yet.
2.
Orange County Otters ?0
Orange County may have had some losses, including Bowers and Franklin Harris Sr, but the Otters suffer the same problem as the Outlaws, a strong all around roster. Suffer may not be the right word. The team is very likely able to fill the holes as Jenkins is no slouch and the impact a defensive tackle is minimal on the line. The Otters may take a step back, but their #2 in the ASFC will likely be the bottom unless either the Sabercats or Legion come knocking with unprecedented force.
3.
Colorado Yeti ?+3
I need a hot take, the Yeti are my hot take team of the week. This 3 could easily come back to bite me, but I like where the Yeti sit, the team is active, and I’m sure after the playoff appearance not being present, hungry for the win. They’re the only team with a stronger defense than offense in the NSFC and if they can shore it up, improve their line and the Noble-Tweed duo returns, that team is in great shape. The team just traded up for the 1 pick, I think they’re likely going to focus on the line in this offensive line top-heavy draft, but I’m curious to see what they do long-term.
4.
Philadelphia Liberty. ?+1
The Liberty have killed it this pre-draft offseason and are easily my winners. Philadelphia has built a crazy defense in two great roster moves including the trade for Mark Ramrio and the record-breaking signing of A.C. Hackett. That said, they still have a lot of problems. The Liberty need a quarterback if they hope to replicate the success of the Outlaws. Christ is no Bronko, and while Fox North is good, the offense still has problems. And while Mark Ramiro is great, they paid a lot for a defensive tackle, which may be a price they are going to regret paying as tackle has been less present on the field than defensive end.
5.
Baltimore Hawks ?-2
If any team lost the offseason pre-draft, it’s the Hawks. A defense is more likely to succeed on the road and leaving the Balitmore native of Hackett on the table, basically meant that right now, the road struggles of the Hawks will continue. The team may be the NSFC champion, but the moves they made this offseason did nothing to bolster their defense or attempt to help Farlane. The draft will be important to the team, as otherwise they can easily repeat the results of the Yeti and be on the outside of the playoffs in the contentious NSFC.
6.
Yellowknife Wraiths ?-1
If history is any indication, Cook may follow Hackett and be a compliment to North rather than Garden in the near future. But here’s the problem, the Wraiths need a defense, the offense-heavy approach has made them a defensive disaster. The pressure is on Spike Crown, to hit the draft amazingly, and I am sure he can, but for right now he’s with a team that has major road struggles (though not as bad as the Hawks) and a defense that has a few bright spots in an otherwise tundra. I put the Wraiths here at 6 because while it looks like other teams are making moves for the future, the Wraiths are planning heavy for a win now year, it’s a gamble that may make it bleak in Canada. I want to say, I do not think the Wraiths are bad, just that someone had to be in the sixth spot and right now I have Yellowknife at the bottom of the NSFC.
7.
Las Vegas Legion ?+1
If there was ever a divine sign, it’s the GM surviving a car accident. This team has been trading away players for picks, and honestly? It’s the smart move. They’re not a piece or two away from competing and so pursuing more picks may be the strategy they need. In addition, the promotion of Savea to co-GM does give the team a stronger sense of stability and cooperation.
8.
San Jose SaberCats ?-1
The SaberCats are in a dire position, where they need players, both in quality and quantity. All three phases of the game is bad. The special teams is garbage and as a result the offense and the defense sputter. The defense can’t stop a nosebleed, much less and offense. Dan Miller and Okonkwo are the strong points of the line and those two need help in rushing the passer, because the linebackers are bleak.
Please send my buddy @TheRealBK the first 1mil from this. I’ll take the rest.
