As we approach the end of the S12 regular season which also coincides with the end of the Wraiths season, Yellowknife has released a statement detailing their staff list for the S13 season which features some notable new faces but also a host of extensions from the S12 staff.
FRONT OFFICE
President - Spike Crown (@Bzerkap]
Former Wraiths Head GM Spike Crown will be taking over as President. Crown famously coached Yellowknife from S3 - S10 which also included an S8 Ultimus Championship. His experience and knowledge of the organisation primes him for this important role.
Director of Player Personnel - Wizard Stephen (@WizardStephen)
Wizard Stephen may only have had one season in Yellowknife as a player (S1 - 5 catches/57 yards/0 touchdowns) before moving on to play with San Jose in S2 in what would become his final season as a player, but the effect he left on the franchise was incredible. Stephen became an instant fan favourite and even in S12 you can still spot a "STEPHEN" jersey during home game days. While he has in the past worked in a more marketing based role for the Wraiths, everybody here is excited to see what he can do in his new role.
Head GM - Jon Gruden (@Daybe)
Head GM Jon Gruden will be extending his stay in Yellowknife as he looks to build on what has been a disappointing season for the Wraiths who sit at 2-9 with just three games remaining on the regular season schedule. Gruden will be hoping for a strong showing of prospects for the S13 NSFL Draft.
Assistant GM - Dermot Lavelle (@White Cornerback)
Lavelle is back for his second stint as Wraiths assistant GM, having previously took over the role during the S10 season alongside Spike Crown during his last season as Head GM. Lavelle is juggling his responsibilities as a player with his assistant GM duties as he is on the end of his 12th consecutive season in the NSFL. Lavelle has expressed in the past that he will not be entering a management role with Yellowknife after his playing days have finished.
HEAD COACHES
Head Coach - Gosh Jarden/Ethan Hunt (@daBenchwarmer)
Hunt is more known for his off the pitch antics than his playing days, after all he legally changed his name to Gosh Jarden in S4 and switched to WR with hopes of irritating his rival Josh Garden. Jarden would play three seasons for Yellowknife from S4 - S6 before calling it quits. Jarden will be taking his first NSFL head coach role for S13 in Yellowknife and much of the fanbase are sceptical, to say the least.
Assistant Coach - Brice Boggs (@Daybe)
Former Yeti and Wraiths CB/LB played just a single season for Yellowknife in S2 before he was traded to Colorado and would play until S5 before being forced into retirement due to reoccurring knee injuries. Boggs will assume his debut position in a coaching capacity in S13.
OFFENSIVE COACHES
Offensive Coordinator - Eric Kennedy (@SwagSloth)
Eric Kennedy was drafted with the 5th pick of the 12th round of the S2 NSFL Draft (93rd overall) by the Yellowknife Wraiths. He would play 9 seasons in total in the league with the majority of them from WR after converting from originally being a RB in his early years. Kennedy had spent the S11 and S12 offseason working with the team during training camps and scrimmage, in S13 he looks for his first foray into a NSFL offensive coordinator role.
Quarterbacks Coach - Mat Akselsen (@Bzerkap)
Akselsen who is also holding the title of Yellowknife President is also returning in a coaching capacity, albeit just focusing on the quarterbacks. Akselsen was drafted 35th overall in the S1 NSFL Draft (5th pick, Round 6) to Yellowknife as an offensive lineman and would play there until S4. Akselsen made the switch to quarterback and would captain the team until S9, S10 would see him traded to San Jose before retiring. Akselsen will be a prime fit for this role and many hope he can help to extend the prime of Ryan Applehort and help nurture future QB talent that Yellowknife has in the pipeline.
Running Backs Coach - Eric Kennedy (@SwagSloth)
Kennedy who started out as a running back will slot naturally into this spot alongside his offensive coordinator role.
Wide Receiver Coach - Football Catcherman (@cpetrella)
Catcherman was drafted with the #10 pick in the S7 NSFL Draft (aka the Colorado Yeti draft) by the Yellowknife Wraiths. Catcherman's short career would be plagued by injuries and he would see just two seasons in the NSFL before retiring in S9. Catcherman's DSFL career set expectations unattainably high and now Catcherman looks to rise to the occasion, albeit in a coaching role for the Wraiths.
Tight End Coach - Ricky Maddox (@SimmerDownBruhh)
Ricky Maddox was drafted 50th overall in the S1 NSFL Draft as a tight end, before switching to defensive end from S3 onwards. Maddox would play his final season in S10 for the Wraiths before hanging up the cleats. Maddox looks to get back to winning ways and hopefully nurture the HOF talent that is Adrian Pitcher while attempting to get the most out of Glenn McPoyal whos production has dropped these last few seasons.
Offensive Lineman Coach - Francois Lameroux (@Archon)
Lameroux was drafted 9th overall in the S3 NSFL Draft but unfortunately it didn't pan out like the Wraiths front office had hoped. Lameroux's career trajectory dropped and his development stalled out and by S5 he found himself as a send down to the DSFL, where he would spend the rest of his career. Lameroux looks to leave his volatile attitude as a player behind him as he attempts to develop the budding Wraiths offensive line.
DEFENSIVE COACHES
Defensive Coordinator - Bork Bjornnsson (@bovovovo)
Borj Bjornnsson would be drafted 5th overall in the S2 NSFL Draft by the Yellowknife Wraiths as a budding defensive tackle. Bjornnsson would have four very productive seasons before he shocked the world with a retirement decision which soured the perception of Bjornnsson to the Wraiths faithful. Now eight seasons after his retirement, Bjornnsson looks to lead the Wraiths defensive side of the ball to glory.
Defensive Lineman Coach - Gustav Rodriguez (@samee)
Rodriguez was drafted with the 23rd pick of the S6 NSFL Draft but wouldn't see the NSFL until S9. Rodriguez had two lacklustre seasons in Yellowknife before retiring at the end of the S10 season. Rodriguez will be hoping to maximise the production of one of the NSFL's best defensive lines.
Linebacker Coach - Robby Rainey (@Ahriman)
Robby Rainey was drafted 13th overall to the Arizona Outlaws in the S6 NSFL Draft but a behind the scenes trade saw his rights traded to the Yellowknife Wraiths. Rainey who is in the midst of his 7th season looks to be winding down and has adopted a player/coach role for the linebackers of the team. Rainey will hope his experience and reputation amongst the core will be fruitful for his first coaching gig, alike many of the S13 hires.
Cornerbacks Coach - Dirk Cutter (@CaptainCats)
Cutter was drafted 23rd overall in the S1 NSFL Draft and would go on to play 7 seasons in Yellowknife before retiring. While Cutters development as a player for the large part faltered as he failed to reach the expectations placed on him from the S1 Draft, he is largely responsible for the development of S2 #1 overall pick CB Dermot Lavelle who will head into his 13th season in the NSFL. Cutter has extensive experience in both a player and coaching capacity, having worked with the Yellowknife Wraiths CB core from S9 - present.
Safeties Coach - Clee Hardrool (@saliva)
Hardrool was drafted 76th overall by the San Jose Sabercats in the S1 NSFL Draft before being traded in S2 to the Yellowknife Wraiths. Hardrool would play 8 seasons for the Wraiths (9 in total) before hanging up his cleats at the end of the S9 season. Hardrool was one of Yellowknifes most consistent performers over his career and now he will take charge of grooming the next generation of Wraiths safeties as well as extending the careers of current standouts such as Cameron Taylor.
SPECIAL TEAM COACHES
Special Teams Coordinator - Joseph Lombardi (@bluesfan55)
Lombardi was drafted 51st overall in the S3 NSFL Draft by the Philadelphia Liberty, by S4 he was on the Yellowknife Wraiths roster after a trade. By S6 he was on the New Orleans Second Line roster and by S7 he was retired. Lombardi's two season tenure with the Wraiths was short but the legacy he left was unmatched, Lombardi has been gone from Yellowknife for 6 seasons now but he hopes to bring the special teams unit of the Wraiths to the next level.
Placekicking Coach - Archibald Booter (@PoloPro)
Archibald Booter was drafted 122nd overall in the S1 Inaugural Draft by the Yellowknife Wraiths. Booter would spend three seasons with the Wraiths before retiring just short of the S4 NSFL Season and while his retirement was unceremoniously received by the Wraiths fans, he by in large has been welcomed back with opened arms. Fans will hope he can lengthen and extend the career of Yellowknifes greatest kicker in franchise history, Forfeit who will be heading into his 8th consecutive NSFL season in S13.
Head S&C Coach - Tyron Smith (@TyronSmith)
The last hiring on the YKW S13 list is a controversial one. Tyron Smith was drafted 29th overall in the S2 NSFL Draft by the Yellowknife Wraiths. He would play just two seasons before being suspended and banned from the league for violating the NSFL's Wellness Policy. Smith has spent the better part of the last 10 years attempting to rebuild his reputation in the footballing world and he and both the Yellowknife fanbase hope this hiring works out.
