*Awards Committee Appreciation and an Apology

Alright, so for those of you who are new to the league or just don't pay that much attention to what happens behind the scenes, I was the head of the Awards Committee for S20 and S21. It wasn't a position I chose to be in, necessarily, more that it just happened that I had some passion for the committee and no one else wanted the job. Not like I blame them for that. Regardless, I stepped away after Season 21 just because I was getting busy with other stuff at the time and couldn't really have extra stuff on my plate, as being a GM took up a good chunk of the time I put into the NSFL. So, I recommended to HO that Voiceless and Lightnoir be put in charge of the committee going forward, as I felt that their work had been up to the standard I was looking for. With COVID-19 essentially ending the academic year for me as well as closing down my planned employment over the summer, I came back onto the committee as the Yellowknife representative. I just wanted to congratulate Voiceless, NickyVMLP and Lightnoir for actually giving the committee structure and really leading them on the right path. Everything worked smoothly, there wasn't any major sort of crunch and all the awards got the respect they deserved. You three really did an amazing job, I love it.

You might be asking right now about the title of the article, and why I'm apologizing. Well, those who were on the committee during S21 will know exactly why. I did nothing like what those three guys put out, I essentially sat there and hoped there would be some organic discussion. When there wasn't any, I essentially had to scramble at the deadline to put together a half-assed ballot. My frustration boiled over, and I made a really long, ranty, grandstanding post about how I wasn't going to accept inaction, that I wasn't going to accept laziness, despite the fact that I myself contributed fucking nothing to the discussion beyond some nods about previous picks.

So, for those of you on the committee during that shitty speech, I apologize. It was fucking stupid for me to write any of that and call you out for something I myself was guilty of. There are no excuses for me, I just had to be better and I wasn't.

Anyways, that about wraps up this 5am article I'm writing off the cuff as NSFL and DSFL GMs submit their votes to the awards. Again, I really want to congratulate the 3 heads of the committee who have all done an amazing job to facilitate discourse in regards to the awards and to actually get what I think is a really solid list of nominees. And once again, I apologize to those who were on the committee with me in S21. You deserved better from me.
