Eric Richards starts his car up as his newlywed wife Clair gets in. It was draft day, and Eric has spent the night at a New York hotel. He was both nervous and excited about where he will go. He has been scouted by a lot of yeams but has no predictions about his destination, but is definitely ready to find out where he will be spending his NSFL career at.
"New York is beautiful this time of year" Clair giggles "it would be a nice place to be drafted to"
"Honey I am not sure they have a team in all honesty" Eric notes "but I am sure wherever we go will be perfect"
"I am sure too" Clair says as she holds him close as he drives. They eventually reach the building where the draft was being held in, and Eric is mobbed by the press asking him a bunch of questions that he tries his best to answer before security makes them go away. He is escorted to a side room in the building where the rest of the draftees are waiting. He sees his father Dean and his mom Jane waiting for him at a table labeled "E.Richards".
"Glad you made it Pa and Ma" Eric says as he sits down
"I wouldn't miss it for nothing son" Dean smiles "i can't wait to see whete you go, i think you will be at least a 2nd rounder"
"We will see Pa we will see"
"I just hope you'll be happy wherever we go" Jane smiles
"I will be Ma, I'll be happy to play hard everywhere" he smiles as the draft begins, and just as expected his friend in London Greedy Sly went first overall to the Colorado Yetis. Eric cheered at that as Sly went to grab his jersey and pose im front of the crowd. He was also happy when Datsum Phastbawls was drafted. However, his good mood would start to fade as he began to fall out of the first round, then the second, then even the third.
"Linebacker of the Year and you are still here on the board." Dean grumbled "I can't believe that, your stats speak for themselves!"
"I know Dad." Eric said in a peeved voice, making Dean know not to talk too much in order to not make his son more annoyed then he already is. "I know" It was in the 4th round when Eric's phone finally rang. "Hello you have reached Eric Richards."
"Hey Eric this is Bayley the GM of thr Chicago Butchers" the voice on the other end says "I know you have been waiting a while, but I am ready to make you our 43rd pick. I even tried to move up to pick you earlier!"
"Oh I am ready to be a Butcher and I am definitely ready to prove the other teams wrong"
"That's what we like to hear! Now prepare to grab your jersey, we are about to pick!" Eric heads out as Commissioner Bex announces the pick.
"With the 43rd pick in the NSFL draft the Chicago Butchers select..Eric Richards, Linebacker from the London Royals!" Eric shakes her hand as he grabs his red and sliver jersey. He then heads back to his parents shows the jersey to his parents.
"Chicago you know I have been there before to see a Cubs game." Dean says
"You went all the way to Chicago for a Cubs game?" Eric asks, raising an eyebrow
"Not just for that, it was also to visit your cousin Kaitlin." Dean smiles "i just went to the game afterwards."
"Got it. Now let's get started on moving soon" They catch a plane back to Sheperdsville Kentucky and start packing up to move to Chicago Illinois. As they were packing up, Eric picks up an old photo of him and his father at a Cincinnati Reds game and smiles.
"You were so little back then" Dean smiles as he is shown the picture "you caught a foul ball remember?"
"Yeah and it got lost a bit later" Eric says "that definitely sucked"
"Well try not to lose any game balls" Dean laughs as Eric puts the photo away in a box of photos. They eventually get the place all packed up, and catch a plane to the Windy City.
"Weird I expected it to be more windy" Eric chuckles as he gets off the plane "but i am glad to get off that plane, jet lag is real." They head to thr Butchers stadium, which is bigger thrn the Royals stadium. He walks around the stadium taking in the atmosphere as he heads up to the GMs office.
"Look I think we have a need at Saftey you can fill out" Bayley smiles "I think it will be a great opportunity for you"
"Wherever you need me coach I will play hard at" Eric smiles "I am ready to prove what a steal i am." They shake hands and Eric happily signs his contract, ready to make some noise
