I know these are waaay overdue but I need some media money and what's greater than reminiscing about the season gone by. Here's Chicago's weekly gameballs:
Week 1
OPOTG - Julio Tirtawidjaja (@indonesianhusker) - Julio Tirtawidjaja earned the first offensive gameball of the season with an efficient performance against the Sailfish. He carried the ball 19 times for 89 yards and caught 4 balls for 24 yards. His average of 4.7 yards per carry helped the Butchers stayed in the game. Watch for Tirtawidjaja to run his way to 1000 yards this season.
DPOTG - Mario VonPebbles (@Jangorhino) - Mario VonPebbles for MVP because its literally in his name! VonPebbles earned the first defensive gameball of the season against Sarasota on the back of a 4 tackles performance, added with 2 tackles for loss and a sack. His old man strength will give opposing offensive linemen a ton of problems this season. Mario VonPebbles is da real MVP, don't @ me.
Week 2
OPOTG - Sam Sidekick (@Evok) - Sidekick led us to the Victory in Week 2 against the Liberty. Amassing 13 of our 19 Points, nailing 3/3 from 30-39 range and 1/1 from 40-49 range with an Extra Point to Boot. Sidekick has been a staple of our team this season, especially early on when we just couldn't function Offensively.
DPOTG - Hamish MacAndrew (@IthicaHawk) - Our Defensive leader this game was none other than Hamish MacAndrew. He brought in 2 Interceptions which helped shut down that Philly Offense, with 2 Pass Deflections and 6 Tackles. MacAndrew has been a leader on and off the field, and we are so happy to have him here with us in Chicago. Let’s give a round of applause to these two fine individuals!
Week 3
OPOTG - Julio Tirtawidjaja (@indonesianhusker) - While it is hard to name an Offensive Player of the game in a blowout loss, I will say it would probably have to go to Julio Tirtawidjaja. Yeah, he averaged 3.4 yards per carry, but he was able to amass 79 yards on the ground against a potent Yellowknife Defense. In the game where there weren't many highlights, it's always fun to watch Julio go off.
DPOTG - Hingle McCringleberry (@Jmac NCheese) - Hingle McCringleberry is our defensive standout for this game against Yellowknife. It was tough from start to finish, but he helped ease the burden with 4 tackles and 3 pass deflections. I can't help but think what this man is going to do to offenses in the future, once the team continues to develop.
Week 4
OPOTG - Griff Oberwald (@Aenir) - Another tough offensive outing for us, especially against a Team we had some chance against. The offensive player of the game would go to Griff Oberwald. He led the offense, when it was out there, with 5 receptions and 57 yards caught. Such a nice big target for O'Donnell to hit, that it will start clicking sooner than later.
DPOTG - Tyron Shields (@TheCC) - Our defensive player of the game against Baltimore would go to our very own Tyron Shields. He amassed 7 tackles and 2 pass deflections and helped the defense keep the score against Baltimore reasonable, even when the offense couldn't pull it together.
Week 5 OPTOG - Sean O'Leary (@Blueline) - Our Offensive player of the game against the Yeti is our very own Sean O'Leary. O'Leary led the team with 6 receptions and 93 yards in the air, averaging 15.5 per catch and a long of 31. While he wasn't able to find the endzone, he helped our offense move those chains and let the defense get some air.
DPOTG - Simeon Works (@juicychase) - Some defensive line love is needed, and this is one of the games to do it in. Simeon Works added 3 tackles, and two tackles for loss against a tough nosed Colorado Yeti squad. He helped kill drives and was a force to be reckoned with all game. It's great to see our team come together in the trenches and fight the opposition.
Week 6
OPOTG - Sean O'Leary (@Blueline) - Another Game, another nod to our star Receiver, Sean O'Leary. He amassed 7 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown against those Copperheads. He was able to help keep us in the game early on, as he was able to grab his touchdown with seconds left in the first half to make the game 14-13 Austin. Sean has been a stellar piece we've had, and it is nice to see him get the recognition he deserves.
DPOTG - Tyron Shields (@TheCC) - Our defensive standout this game is going to go to a stinky cornerback named Tyron Shields again. While Austin continued to throw on us over and over, Shields was there to clean it up quite a bit. Recording 11 tackles, with a tackle for loss and a Pass Deflection, Shields was all over the field for us in this loss, which I'm not quite sure is good or bad.
Week 7
OPOTG - Sam Sidekick (@Evok) - Our Offensive player of the game here is Sam Sidekick. You got to realize, throughout this whole season, Sidekick has been there grinding away and always putting points on the board when our offense couldn't finish. Sidekick was able to amass all of our 9 points against Honolulu, and I want to keep Sidekick kicking for a long time.
DPOTG - Osiris Firestorm-Fjord (@HalfEatenOnionBagel) - Our Defensive Player of the game goes to Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, who was such a staple in our secondary. OFF recorded only 3 tackles, but also amassed 2 pass deflections to help attempt to shut down that Honolulu offense. OFF has been such a help in the locker room and on the field, we want to lock him up for the rest of his career.
Week 8
OPOTG - Benson Bayley Jr. (@"BayleyIsland") - Our Offensive Player of the game goes to our very own Benson Bayley Jr. While Our running game as a whole had an amazing night against Arizona, you can't help but thank the Offensive Linemen. Bayley Jr. Recorded 6 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed, as well as not committing a single penalty against a tough Arizona Defense, which opened up our Run Game. Thanks Bayley!
DPOTG - Tyler Oles Jr. (@Oles) - Our Defensive player of the game goes to the one, the only, Tyler Oles Jr. Oles Jr. was all over the field tonight against his own team, and he brought a lot of passion. Oles Jr. Recorded an interception in which he returned for a Touchdown to seal the game for us. He gave us a commanding lead with only 12 minutes left in the 4th quarter which Arizona could not recover from.
Week 9
OPOTG - George O'Donnell (@Leafer) - Our offense finally started to come together, under the leadership of George O'Donnell. This game against Orange County is one of his best to date, throwing 32 times with 19 completions. He totaled 252 yards, with 1 touchdown and 1 interception thrown, with a 81.8 rating. O'Donnell has had a rough go this season, and our offense hasn't done him any huge favors, but he really came into his own against Orange County.
DPOTG - Mario VonPebbles (@Jangorhino) - Our defensive stud against Orange County was Mario VonPebbles, yet another great performance for a defensive lineman. He came out the gate with a chip on his shoulder, where he amassed 7 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and a sack. He really attempted to shut down Orange County's Running Game all by himself.
Week 10
OPOTG - Raheem Okusi (@Raheem James) - Our Offensive Player of the game is going to Raheem Okusi. Raheem hauled in 4 receptions for 63 yards, averaging almost 16 per catch, coming in at 15.8 He has been a wonderful help to our receiving core, along with O'Leary and Oberwald, and as they all continue to develop, O'Donnell is going to shine.
DPOTG - Tyron Shields (@TheCC) - What a Surprise, another Player of the game to Tyron Shields. He brought the pain against San Jose, amassing 15 tackles, to go along with 2 pass deflections and an interception. He was all over the field, yet again, and he wanted us to get the win so badly, he was bleeding out there for us.
Week 11
OPOTG - Raheem Okusi (@Raheem James) - Another strong outing for Okusi names him this week's player of the game. He caught 5 receptions for 106 yards, averaging a staggering 21.6 yard per catch. Okusi showed us why he deserved the extension he got, and he brought the heat at home against New Orleans.
DPOTG - Hamish MacAndrew (@IthicaHawk) - It's hard to pinpoint one standout against New Orleans. Our whole defense was clicking, as we only allowed 9 receptions by a strong offense. We even held New Orleans to 6 points, total. But, if we really have to pick just One player here, it would have to go to Hamish MacAndrew. He recorded 4 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pass deflection. It was a team win, of course, but MacAndrew showed us why he's one of our stars.(edited)
Week 12
OPOTG - Sean O'Leary (@Blueline) - Our Offensive player of the game is going to one of our longest tenured players in O'Leary. he had a bit of a slump these past few weeks, but he broke it out against the Sailfish. He recorded 6 Receptions for 111 yards, averaging 18.5 per catch, and a Touchdown. If we want our offense to continue clicking, it's going to be because of O'Leary.
DPOTG - Eric Richards (@WildfireMicro) - One of our rookies stole the spotlight tonight against Sarasota. His name, Eric Richards. He came in, with a chip on his shoulder and a game to prove, and he did just that. He had a TD saving Tackle, at our goal line, and recorded a total of 7 tackles and a sack against Sarasota. With this kind of development, the defense has no limits.
Week 13
OPOTG - Raheem Okusi (@Raheem James) - Raheem Okusi once again earned this week’s offensive gameball, by scoring a touchdown on top of 63 yards from 4 catches. Our rookie wide receiver has proven himself again as a weapon for the Butchers young offense. Going against the likes of Brandon Booker and Matt Cross, Okusi was able to hold up on his own and not let himself get bullied by the Liberty’s secondary. Look forward to Okusi lighting up the league next season.
DPOTG - Eric Richards (@WildfireMicro) - Eric Richards, the rookie safety, was everywhere on the field in this week’s game against Philadelphia. Richards collected 9 tackles, a sack and a pass defended. An interception would have completed the performance but regardless, it was an incredible performance by Richards. The Butchers won’t have to worry about the defensive backfield with Richards patrolling the field with Hamish “Best Beard in Chicago” MacAndrew.
Honorable Mention(s): Hingle McCringleberry
Week 14
OPOTG - Griff Oberwald (@Aenir) - Another week, another rookie wide receiver earning this week’s offensive gameball! This week Gryff Oberwald holds our offensive game ball with a 5 reception, 70 yards performance against the Wraiths. Unfortunately, he did not get to score a touchdown but he still carried the Butchers offense despite the loss. He stood on his own against the likes of Magnus Valdyr and Johnny Hellzapoppin, helping O’Donnell move the ball and secure the ball. Along with Okusi, Oberwald is another future weapon QB George O’Donnell will rely on to move the ball, in addition to Sean O’Leary, Von Hayes, and Tree Gelbman.
Honorable Mention(s): George O’Donnell
DPOTG - Tyler Oles Jr. (@Oles) - Tyler Oles Jr. heroically held the likes of Bender Rodriguez, Nate Swift, Mathias Hanyadi, and Acura Skyline to zero receiving touchdowns and less than 60 yards by 4 passes defended. Oles Jr. as an established off-season addition has brought experience and understanding to the defense, especially against teams like the Wraiths with so many offensive weapons on the field. He will definitely be an important piece to defend the air in the Butchers effort to rebuild and reach the playoffs in the upcoming seasons.
Honorable Mentions(s): Tyron Shields, Mike Hockhertz
Week 15
OPOTG - Sean O'Leary (@Blueline) - Mr. Dependable Sean O’Leary earned this week’s offensive gameball with a tremendous performance against the Hawks. O’Leary caught 5 balls for 104 yards and a touchdown. Although he may be having a down year based on his standard, he will become scarier and more lethal as George O’Donnell matures as a passer.
Honorable Mention(s): George O’Donnell, Von Hayes, Gryffin Oberwald
DPOTG - Hingle McCringleberry (@Jmac NCheese) - Hingle McCringleberry is this week’s defensive gameball earner. The rookie linebacker had 7 tackles and a sack against the Hawks. He had the challenge of going against the likes of Apollo Reed and Darrell Williams but he did not look out of place lining up opposite to them. McCringleberry will blossom into one of the league’s premier linebackers soon and haunt opposing teams’ offenses.
Honorable Mention(s): Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, Tyron Shields
Week 16
OPOTG - Sean O'Leary (@Blueline) - Two weeks in a row of earning an offensive gameball for Sean O’Leary! Another 100+ yards performance for O’Leary and another touchdown scored. This week against the Yeti, O’Leary caught 7 balls for 114 yards and the sole touchdown for Chicago. O’Leary is resurging this late into the season and is on pace to gain another 1000 yard season.
Honorable Mention(s): George O’Donnell
DPOTG - Tyron Shields (@TheCC) - Tyron Shields earned this week’s defensive gameball with his effort in defending the air against the Yeti. Shields collected 7 tackles and defended 2 passes. Stats might not show it but as per usual, Shields was all over the field. Watch for Shields to once again swarm all over the field in upcoming seasons.
Honorable Mention(s): Hamish MacAndrew, Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, Mario VonPebbles
Week 1
OPOTG - Julio Tirtawidjaja (@indonesianhusker) - Julio Tirtawidjaja earned the first offensive gameball of the season with an efficient performance against the Sailfish.
