Hello, loyal Yellowknife fans.
It’s your favorite Yellowknife Fullback here. Granted, sure, I’m the only one, but don’t let that stop me from being your favorite. I know I’m not usually not the first one that people want to interview after games, but honestly, that’s why I’m starting this blog. I recently returned to Yellowknife after heading back home to New Orleans for the off-season. I had a blast down there, but it also reminded me of all the people back home that are still keeping tabs at me and I realize that it’s not the easiest thing to do when I’m so far away. While I was home, I had a chance to sit down with a reporter from the Advocate, who gave me the chance to talk to the fans in my own words. Rather than simply toss questions at me, they laid out a few topics and let me respond at my own pace. And I can tell you, based on the other interviews that I’ve done, I really enjoyed the level of freedom it offered. After their interview, another friend back home suggested I start a blog, so that I can keep in touch with my fans back home. Granted, I do have a few fans out here in Yellowknife. I am your favorite Fullback, afterall. And I’d like to think that maybe there’s a few fans in-between my two homes, so I’m calling this blog North to South.
Now, there’s a few topics I’d love to get into. Game of Thrones just ended season 7. Taylor is feuding with Katie… again. And that new Thor trailer looks amazing. Just kidding. None of those are things you came here to read about, though. You’re here to hear me talk about the NSFL and to share cool locker room stories, so we’ll jump to the stuff you guys care about.
But, seriously, that Thor trailer looks ridiculously good. I can’t wait to see him fight the Hulk.
As for the Wraiths, we just welcomed our rookies to the team and are in training camp right now. I like a lot of the faces I’m seeing. By now, everyone’s heard my sob story about last year’s draft, but I’m trying to help the newbies learn the ropes and get the most out of this experience. This team has meant a lot to me over the last year and I want it to mean just as much to the new guys. Obviously, I’m mega psyched to have Brice Boggs back. Even as a free agent, he was a big part of our team last season. And I don’t just mean on the field. He got along with everyone in that locker room and, when we parted ways at the end of last season, I was really worried that the next time I’d see him would be on the opposite side of the field. Trust me. I’m not afraid to say we hugged when we said goodbye, but if I saw him running at me in the middle of a game, it probably wouldn’t be for a hug. (Well, maybe a painful one.)
I have taken a liking to a few of the new rookies in particular. I mean, yeah, everyone says that because they want it to sound like their team is gonna be awesome, but these are some good guys. Francois Lameroux is really impressing me. Come to think of it, so is Kiko Bakari. In addition to both having funny names, though, they’re both super chill. Well, Francois did take the last jelly donut we smuggled into the locker room, but trust me when I say… his name is pretty awesome. Seriously, I thought someone was making fun of him by calling him that. For a week, I called the guy “chief” because I couldn’t figure out what his first name was. It turned out to actually be Francois. Imagine that. Also, Francois and I did frame Kiko for taking the last jelly donut and he took it in stride, so he’s good in my book, too.
As far as actual football goes, I’m really psyched for my new locker roo buddy, Tight End Joseph Askins. Joe’s a blocker first and foremost, which is cool. A lot of Tight Ends just argue over Touchdowns, but as a fullback, the best feeling you can have is to look over and see a big 6’6” backing you up. That definitely makes my job easier. He’s honestly already a better blocker, but in fairness, I did beat him that one time in arm wrestling. Granted, we were both a bit drunk and he claims he was distracted by Fitzfatrick, but eventually I’ll probably give him that rematch he keeps asking for. (Spoiler: I won’t.) Also, as far as our new Defensive Tackle Fitzfatrick, that is his real name. After the Francois debacle, I made sure to ask. I think it might be Swedish. Or Canadian. Honestly, I still can’t tell the difference.
The person next to me just told me that the Swedes were Vikings. I don’ know. That seems like a stereotype. Then again, I once told a girl up here that I kept an alligator back home named Boudreaux as a pet, so who am I to talk about stereotypes? But, seriously, I do apologize to any Vikings for comparing them to Canadians. And to any Canadians for comparing you to Vikings. Granted, I’m not scared of the Canadians, but they make good beer, so we’re good. Also, it was Akselsen that made the comment and I’m pretty sure he’s like 75% Viking, anyway, so maybe it’s all good. He doesn’t know I’m writing a blog, though. He thinks I’m just talking out loud about Vikings.
Actually, now, I am kind of stuck on Vikings. I think it’s that new Thor movie. I’m gonna google Ragnarok and see what it means.
…dude, it’s literally is Viking for “the end”. What the hell, dude? Spoilers. Well, if the Hulk and Thor fight disappoints, at least we have the Taylor Swift and Katy Perry fight to look forward to. I think that one’s gonna be on pay-per-view, though.
Oh, yeah. I almost forgot to mention Eidur Gustavsson. He’s also got a really funny name. Come to think of it, he kind of looks like Thor. I wonder if he’s ever fought the Hulk? I’ll have to ask him. (I asked Akselsen about it, but he’s getting annoyed about me asking about Viking stuff. I’d better stop. He weighs like twice what I do and I need him to keep blocking for me.)
Come to think of it, I think that’s a good enough point to stop for today. I’ve never written a blog before. How do you end a blog? Do blogs even end? I guess this one does. I really meant to talk more about football, but come on… Vikings.
And Amanda, if you’re reading this, I promise you’ll get to meet Boudreaux when I take you back with me to New Orleans. Right after I give Francois that arm wrestling rematch.
