Week 1 and 2 are now over and adam was so nice to post the different lineups people put in, which I find fascinating, so me and my brother went through it. Therefore, please give half of the payout to @`StevenO'Sullivan`
There were 61 entries in week 1.
Let's look at positions first, here is on how many of those 61 entries different players were picked:
Quarterback:
L. Noble - tier 3 - 32 teams
K. Bronko - tier 2 - 12 teams
C. Orosz - tier 1 - 6 teams
M. Boss - tier 1 - 6 teams
S. Kyubee - tier 2 - 3 teams
J. Bercovici - tier 3 - 2 teams
I guess other people agreed with my advice article and thought Noble was vastly under-rated in tier 3. It is also interesting to note that two starting QBs were not picked (Rove and Hunt - Ironically both had a good game, Hunt actually one of the best).
It is also interesting to analyse the strategy. Here is an example: @automatic used five different quarterbacks in five teams. @timeconsumer used Noble in all five teams. Very interesting different strategies and I cannot wait to find out who ended up winning!
Running Back:
R. Mackworthy - tier 1 - 25 teams
L. Jenkins - tier 2 - 24 teams (4 times in FLEX)
B. Tweed - tier 1 - 19 teams (2 times in FLEX)
D. Farlane - tier 1 - 16 teams (1 time in FLEX)
B. Nuck - tier 1 - 13 teams (1 time in FLEX)
J. Durden - tier 2 - 11 teams (2 times in FLEX)
O. Wright - tier 1 - 10 teams
A. Savea - tier 2 - 7 teams (1 time in FLEX)
E. Burnsman - tier 3 - 4 teams
K Cobb - tier 2 - 2 teams
D. Diaz - tier 3 - 1 team
J. Tuck - tier 3 - 1 team
As predicted, Running Back ends up being a position where tier 1 is used much more often, given that you want two decent starters there. Only a few teams used back-ups.
Wide-Receiver:
J. Garden - tier 1 - 20 teams (10 times in FLEX)
B. Westfield - tier 2 - 19 teams (2 times in FLEX)
D. Smallwood - tier 3 - 16 teams (5 times in FLEX)
C. Chess - tier 3 - 14 teams (3 times in FLEX)
B. Cook - tier 2 - 13 teams (6 times in FLEX)
D. Evans - tier 2 - 12 teams (4 times in FLEX)
M. Vincent - tier 3 - 10 teams (5 times in FLEX)
K. Hendrix - tier 1 - 9 teams
M. Jackson - tier 1 - 9 teams (1 time in FLEX)
R. Phelps - tier 1 - 9 teams
F. North - tier 1 - 8 teams (2 times in FLEX)
N. Stormblessed - tier 2 - 7 teams (4 times in FLEX)
C. Christmas - tier 2 - 6 teams (1 time in FLEX)
T. Willie - tier 3 - 6 teams (3 times in FLEX)
D. Kroetch - tier 3 - 6 teams (3 times in FLEX)
S. Weston - tier 2 - 3 teams (1 time1 in FLEX)
B. Browning - tier 3 - 3 teams
J. Ross - tier 3 - 1 team
Wide-Receiver seems quite mixed with a lot of tier 1's being used quite a lot, but the top filled with bargains at tier 2 and 3 except for Garden.
Tight End:
G. Wright Jr. - tier 2 - 33 times
P. DiMirio - tier 1 - 8 times
R. Gucci - tier 3 - 7 times
J. Askins - tier 3 - 5 times
C. Law - tier 3 - 5 times
B. Bottles - tier 2 - 2 times
G. Tenzini - tier 3 - 1 time
Similar to Quarterback, people knew where the bargain was. Wright was very cheap at tier 2 and therefore got picked by far the most.
Kicker:
S. Harris - tier 3 - 20 times
I. Blewitt - tier 3 - 19 times
C. Ronaldo - tier 2 - 13 times
A. Sims - tier 3 - 5 times
B. Kicksit - tier 2 - 4 times
Not a single tier 1 kicker being used on any team, with tier 3 being used in a large majority of teams. People knew to value kicker very low, with kickers from tier 3 being able to outperform others very easily.
Defense:
Arizona - tier 1 - 19 times
Baltimore - tier 2 - 10 times
Philadelphia - tier 3 - 9 times
Colorado - tier 3 - 8 times
Yellowknife - tier 3 - 7 times
Orange County - tier 2 - 5 times
San Jose - tier 3 - 3 times
With only one defense in tier 1, Arizona still ended up picked most often. They were a dominant force last year and so deserve to be the only tier 1 defense. Lots of teams also using tier 3.
Tier usage:
Here is a percentage of how tier 1 was used:
Quarterback: 19%
Running-back: 62%
Wide-receiver: 32%
Tight End: 13%
Kicker: 0%
Defense: 32%
Here is a percentage of how tier 2 was used:
Quarterback: 24%
Running-back: 33%
Wide-receiver: 35%
Tight End: 57%
Kicker: 28%
Defense: 24%
Here is a percentage of how tier 3 was used:
Quarterback: 57%
Running-back: 5%
Wide-receiver: 33%
Tight End: 30%
Kicker: 72%
Defense: 44%
And here a quick comparison per position and tier:
QB: 19/24/57
RB: 62/33/5
WR: 32/35/33
TE: 13/57/30
K: 0/28/72
DEF: 32/24/44
As we can see, Running Back is the most important position for tier 1, as expected. Wide Receiver seems to have talent in all three tiers and is incredibly balanced. Quarterback and Kicker are most heavily used from tier 3.
