We’re going hot into the regular season.
Power rankings indicate that if two teams face off with all things neutral, the higher team should win, does that happen
For the record, the index has the Otters as #1.
1.
Arizona Outlaws (2-0) ?0
TPE is a finicky resource. On one hand, you have players who have more than anyone else on the Outlaws. On the other hand, caps exist so while a 200TPE lineman may not be as intelligent or as good in kicking as a the Outlaws defensive lineman coming at them, the value for the TPE is much smaller for the Outlaws player than it is for the 200TPE player. What am I getting at? Well most teams saw that defense has been the key to winning, and it’s starting to take a toll on the Outlaws offense. Here’s a crazy fact, The Arizona offense has scored 54 points, the second highest in the league. 33 of those 54 points has been field goals. 21% of their red zone drives has concluded in the end zone. This team’s road to a three peat may be harder than people let on, as the defense is going to be what the Outlaws will rely on to stay afloat.
2.
Orange County Otters (2-0) ?0
Full disclaimer, the Otters are the only two teams to start the season with two home games. The Otters lead the league in both points scored and points allowed. Yet, I’m wary to keep them in second. In fact, you can make a case for team 3 being there too, but we’re talking about the Otters here. Where last week the run game was where the heat was, this week the air game led by Mike Boss took off and the defense took advantage of rookie QB Pierno getting four turnovers from the young North Carolina quarterback. Are the Otters for real on defense? Well, they’re heading to the Boneyard in Yellowknife so the real test with a QB who has season under their belt begins now.
3.
Baltimore Hawks (2-0) ?0
The team from Baltimore has a lot going for them. The pass rush is nuts. 9 sacks. Nine. That’s crazy. Even though the games have been closer than the Hawks have been closer than they want them to be, the Hawks are hoping that QBs cannot reach the backfield by rushing hard and heavy. The Hawks offense is going well, and in all honesty, they could be the NSFC team to beat.
4.
Yellowknife Wraiths (0-2) ?0
The Wraiths played well. They didn’t play great, but they played well. Despite not being at home, and having a history of struggling on the Road, they didn’t make any mistakes. Orosz didn’t turnover the ball and a Garden fumble was just inopportune. So what’s to love about the Wraiths? Well, if they can play games close on the road, then imagine how good they’re going to be on their own turf when they pump the stadium noise to make up for the stadium being able to seat 3x more people than the population of Yellowknife (20,000).
5.
San Jose SaberCats (1-1) ?+1
The buzzer-beater TD to Weston was quite something. There’s a lot to love about the team from San Jose. The defense has made a huge upgrade. The pass rush need is still there, but the pass defense has been able to shut down the likes of Evans, Zhang, Cook and Garden. Hunt is a rollercoaster QB, but when he is on point, it shows, and it showed this week as he led the league in passer rating. He just needs to curb the interceptions and he can prove to the world that he belongs in the list of great QBs such as Orosz and Noble*.
6.
Philadelphia Liberty (0-2) ?-1
Rove has shown his ability to step up. He was able to turn the ball over only once against a stout Outlaws defense but it was good. Omar wright has also been quietly good, Averaging 4 yards per carry against the Arizona defense is nothing to scoff at, now if only they could commit to the run a little bit more and depend on Rove to carry this team.
7.
Las Vegas Legion (0-2) ?0
Who leads the league in receiving yards? Do you know? If you guessed LeClair, you would be a cheater, because there’s no way you guessed LeClair. Stormblessed has fallen off the Radar, and Leclair has been shining as well as one can in Las Vegas. There’s still a lot for this team to prove but they are definetly on the right path.
8.
Colorado Yeti (1-1) ?0
4 Interceptions. Pierno is definitely a high upside quarterback, but trial by fire may not have been the right approach for the Yeti. They’re not competitive, but the spirit of the rookie has to be taking a beating, as his only lifeline on offense has essentially become Boss Tweed. Teams are stacking the box and daring him to throw, and it’s had disastrous results for the Colorado team.
Please send my buddy @ElMachoNacho the first 1mil from this. I’ll take the rest.
