Hi there. I'm kckolbe, player of Kevin Cushing, former cornerback from the Yellowknife Wraiths. I imagined you'd have heard of me, given that, in terms of TPE, I am the #4 DB (that's CB AND safety, btw) in the league. However, based on Pro Bowl voting, I assume that somehow I was overlooked.
I can see why voters may have been reluctant to look my way (not as reluctant as quarterbacks were, mind you). After all, I only started 6 games at CB last year. Sure, SOME folks might look at the fact that in those 6 games I had 7 passes defensed, including one interception returned for a touchdown. Of course, that was against Mike Boss targeting Robert Phelps, in Orange County, so I can see why you might think it wasn't that big a deal.
Hell, I guess I had bad games, too. Like against Las Vegas Legion, where I only had one tackle all game long. I could argue that that's because I only allowed ONE CATCH, for 9 yards, against Alexander LeClair. I was on him all game. And before you go, well, that's Legion, bear in mind that Jon Ross got 71 yards on Dermot Lavelle in that game.
And that's the problem. The most important stat for a CB is yards allowed, which we don't track. The second is probably passing TDs allowed, also not tracked.
Here's another way of looking at it. Here are the 8 games I played at LB followed by my 6 games at CB.
Yards TD INT Opponent
205 2 1 Hawks
307 2 1 SJS
329 0 1 OC
276 2 1 LVL
284 3 1 PHI
154 1 2 COL
175 1 0 BAL
306 3 1 ARI
254.5 yards/g, 1.75 TD, 1 INT
308 1 2 OC
151 0 1 LVL
345 3 2 SJS
256 1 0 ARI
180 1 0 PHI
148 0 2 COL
231.3 yards/game, 1 TD, 1.17 INT
Look, we all get caught up on stats, but when voting, keep this in mind: who do you least want to face? If you are a QB, which DBs are you least eager to target? If a WR, which ones do you least want covering you? If you can really think of 12 folks before you get to Kevin Cushing, then okay, maybe I didn't deserve to make it.
