The draft is something I had been looking forward to ever since season 6 in the DSFL ended. I was filled with a mix of hope, anxiety, and excitement, truly something I was engaged with in any capacity, from talking to the GMs to the media hype. I had seen some interesting mocks, and had some interesting talks leading up to the draft, and I was curious to exactly where I would end up.
A lot of mock drafts had me going to Otters, in-fact I think every mock did have me going to the Otters either at pick 3 or pick 8. I'd be lying if I thought I was going elsewhere after these mocks. I quickly corrected myself in this thought, and realized that mock drafts are just that, and you can not predict who will choose who in the moment. I took a breath and thought about it before realizing that it would be an honor to even play in the NSFL, regardless of the team.
Then the draft happened. I slipped past the Otters at 3 and recalled some conversations with Sapp of the Colorado Yeti and knew that was where I would end up. When I was selected I was thrilled because of the amount of draft capital they had to build a winning team for the future.
Then the incident happened. Those in attendance may have recalled that I lashed out with an exclamation that I would not play for the Colorado Yeti and would demand a trade. I would like to publicly apologize to Sapp and the Colorado Yeti, that was unfair to him, and it was unfair to the team. I lashed out over a misunderstanding entirely on my side, and I wasn't thinking clearly.
I spent the past few days reflecting on that moment, it was an embarrassing act, and one that not only made me look bad, but reflected poorly on the Portland Pythons, and the Colorado Yeti. I have spent the time reflecting on this action, spending time talking with PFTN, PDX, and Sapp and I am happy to say that as of April 6, 2018, I have signed a 2 year contract with the Colorado Yeti.
I am grateful to be on such a young and upcoming team with a tremendous draft class.
Ryan Applehort may have not seen the field much in S6 of the DSFL, but he's been praised by many GMs as being the top prospect at the QB position. I am sad that Cole McCoy will not be my QB, but I look forward to being a reliable target for Ryan in S8 of the NSFL.
Ryan Lefevre and Desta Danger are two formidable defensive players that will be cornerstones of the defense for years to come.
I also want to commend Yeti for trading back into the first round in a move I really liked in the moment and still do.
With that said, I will be returning to Portland for this year to polish my skills, and will step into S8 as one of the leagues rising stars along with the rest of this draft. Yeti will be a force for years to come.
