Tijuana - It's another SFC game between the undefeated Tijuana Luchadores and the San Antonio Marshals. Many DSFL writers have the Luchadores winning narrowly against the Marshals in their pregame predictions. Sure, Metaxas has had his fair share of underwhelming performances, but both he and the up-and-coming rookie Adriana Falconi have helped push the Luchadores into a fantastic 5-0-0 start.
Of course, then you get into the First Half. Metaxas, despite playing roughly the same amount of plays as Falconi, was completely outclassed by the younger rookie. Despite each quarterback throwing an interception, Falconi made up for her rough start with a strong Second Half performance, throwing three touchdowns. On the other hand, Metaxas could only watch from the sidelines, his head in his hands as he was verbally frustrated.
If you had watched the live broadcast, you would have noticed a multitude of "f-bombs" being thrown on the field. Luchadore fans would have noticed that the majority of these "f-bombs" were being thrown by Metaxas, even when he was able to complete a pass.
These outright disappointing performances by Metaxas, accompanied by the strong performances of Falconi have led Luchadores management to question whether or not if Metaxas is even good enough for the DSFL, never mind the NSFL. Likewise, Wraiths management have been reportedly scouting upcoming S10 quarterbacks. Both of these moves are most likely due to Metaxas' inability to adapt to the professional football scenery, with the now 21-year old trying to pull off plays that worked in college, but clearly do not work in the DSFL.
"Wraiths management have to be questioning not his [Metaxas] athletic ability, but rather his mental game. When he's on, he's on, but once you get inside of his [Metaxas] head, you can cause so much damage it's unbelievable." An anonymous source within the Luchadores organization said. "With Falconi doing so well, I wouldn't be surprised if Metaxas got moved eventually. It's super disappointing, especially since he was one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the S9 class."
So far this season, Andreas Metaxas has thrown the ball 104 times, and only completed 57.7% of his passes. While he's thrown more yards (700) than Falconi (696), the gap is not as large as some may believe. Additionally, Metaxas has thrown significantly less touchdowns (4) to Falconi (11) while the two have thrown similar interceptions (5 vs. 4). The quarterback rating is where Falconi truly shows that she is capable of taking over the starting job from Metaxas, with Metaxas posting a mediocre 71 QBR while Falconi has a much better rating of 95.6.
Should the Tijuana Luchadores and Yellowknife Wraiths management teams be concerned with Metaxas' season? One-hundred percent, at this point it's just disappointing to see a quarterback who has hyped by a fair amount of scouts to just, stumble, and disappoint fans, coaches, managers, fellow players and everyone in between. Should the teams look into trading Metaxas however? That remains to be seen, as Metaxas could still rebound and have a strong second half of the season. However, that is becoming harder and harder to believe as Metaxas visibly is losing the battle against Falconi for playing time, and is appearing to look more and more defeated as this season wears on.
