If I were an expansion GM, Id gladly take this guy top 2.  Then hold him for a ransom from the Otters.  If they don't want to pay it, I'd gladly do it again next season.

This announcement hurts the Otters leverage to get him more than anything else.

2 things from the rules:

1) If a player sits out an entire season and does not sign with the team that drafted them they may re-enter the following draft. These players may ONLY do activity checks and weekly ITC until they are under contract.

He'll never be a free agent if he never signs with the team that drafts him.

2) In the case of a player not wanting to play where they are signed. A trade must be implemented at the earliest time available. Holding a player hostage will be grounds for the league to step in and mandate a trade of less then equal value for the GM preventing the trade.

If he demands a trade, the league will step in and facilitate the trade if you are refusing to provide fair value.

Technically that quote from the rules is from the waivers section of the rules pertaining to waiver pickups. The first part is accurate though, and he COULD just sign a one year deal.

So why do we have a draft if this is allowed ? Why can't we just choose our teams ?
