Darren Morris did not have a draft party for his S5 NSFL draft. Instead he was in the hospital, with a concussion earned during the Ultimini showdown that season between his San Antonio Marshals and the Portland Pythons. Going into the 3rd quarter, Morris got into an awkward position with CB Gregory Fletcher on the team attempting to make a tackle on a Python receiver. In the process, his head was snapped back and he suffered a severe concussion and was in a brief coma after surgery. The result? He was no where to be seen during his S5 NSFL draft and his draft stock suffered for it. Widely rumoured to be a high-level prospect before the horrific accident, instead he ended up being selected 12 overall by the Arizona Outlaws. The Outlaws were not where Morris had expected to go: prior to the incident he was sure he'd be selected in the first round for sure, and even in the first half of the first round. But, after seeing the injury and talking with doctors, scouts were definitely very concerned that Morris might never play football again. Fortunately for the Outlaws he had a miraculous recovery and has played the last 2 seasons with no sign of the catastrophic injury.

On draft day I remember not even watching it. I was projected to go late or even undrafted so I spent that day at my moms house hoping for a post draft call to sign to a team as an undrafted free agent. No friends over and no party planned I was getting ready to go to sleep and could hear my mom watching the draft still when I heard the phone ring, I picked up and was told I was drafted to Orange County right after I heard a scream from my mom and she came running in hugging me and crying tears of joy, proud of her baby boy. Knowing I finally made it big I took my mom to the biggest and fanciest restaurant in town to celebrate. The next day I received a whole lot of calls from friends who planned a big party hosted by the city who finally produced a professional athlete. The celebration took place in the town square which had food vendors a field for the kids to play football and even a local band made up of teens. At the end a huge fireworks show was performed as a sendoff before I left to Orange County.

Brad had a simple draft party at his residential apartment in Tijuana for the Season Eight draft. Some friends and extended family were in attendance, but that was about it. There wasn't a real reason to attend the draft based on pre draft discussions with various teams. The chance of a surprise outcome which would require him to be in attendance was extremely improbable. San Jose was, unless a miracle occurred, the team which would take select him with their first selection. Rumors after the draft suggests that had they waited until the sixth pick, it would have been unlikely for him to have gone to San Jose. Indeed when Brad was on the board, the SaberCats did not hesistate to select him. It's impossible to say that this outcome was unexpected to a degree, but it was still a solid team to be selected by with the third overall pick. Interviews with them and a few of their players had gone well, so there's a decent fit to be found there. Receiving the call wasn't the emotional outpouring you may expect from a guy who learns that he's gonna be playing the sport he loves with an NSFL franchise. Essentially from day one, Brad is going to be the leader of a franchise that needs a rebuild to get them back into the playoffs and come out with at least a win. There are great Sabercat veterans in the locker room to learn from and get my feet wet in true professional competition.

Back in the day, (it really seems like forever ago), at the S5 NSFL Draft, Carlito Crush knew that his name wouldn’t just be called, but that it’d be called VERY early. While he wasn’t 100% sure that he’d be the first overall pick to Colorado, he knew that if he wasn’t, he’d be playing in Baltimore. Because he was going to be a high pick, the NSFL invited him and his family to come sit in the green room during the draft, so he could walk across the stage, hug the commish, and get his jersey. Carlito brought his father, Brutus, his mother, and his Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer. It was an unreal experience, as the NSFL and his agent hooked him up with a new suit, a giant watch (that he had to give back after the draft), and some nice shoes. He was looking like a million dollars. Once he heard “And with the first pick in the S5 NSFL Draft, the Colorado Yeti select: Carlito Crush, Tight End, Ohio State.” He jumped right up and hugged his parents. He got on stage and was introduced to a whirlwind of cameras flashing, interviews, and little kids wanting his autograph. The feeling was surreal and something that may never be experienced again. I have a family that does not give a shit at all even if I win an award to anything but if I do get drafted to sign with a team or win a championship then they get happy. In the S5 DSFL Draft, my cousins and friends were at the draft party and god, I have no idea what the fuck happened at the party and maybe they got drunk I think but they had a lot of fun there but I think they did not care that I got drafted because it was late and there was a party going on.

I was not surprised but for the NSFL Draft, they did not go to the draft party but instead a party at home. My parents were with me and the rest were at home and I think they went not for me but for the food. I have a family that cares about me soooooooooo much and Roenicks are being Roenicks. I really did not care how they would react because I would think they did not even react at all. But parents were behind me and they were happy. The party went nuts and everything was a mess and the results was uh weird.

Alexandre LeClair was called up the day before the draft by the Baltimore Hawks telling him to come down from Montreal, where he spends his off-seasons, to Baltimore for the official Draft Party. Not having much choice in the matter, LeClair travelled the very next morning to Baltimore.

Much to his surprise, LeClair was not the only Hawk to have been called into town for the party, as Avon Blocksdale, Trey Willie, and even Turk Turkleton were present.

The party started in the late afternoon, just outside The Aviary, with a massive barbecue organized by the team, for their fans. After some boring presentations and speeches, the players that came to the party were encouraged to go and enjoy the afternoon with the fans. Baltimore is a big family and the fans are part of it.

Later in the evening, a fancier reception was being held inside the stadium for VIPs, upper management and their respective families. The selection of Childish Gambino at 5th overall was announced about 30 minutes into the NSFL Draft and the crowd was pretty excited. But right after, the Hawks proceeded to a trade that landed them wide receiver Budda Browning. The crowd went wild after hearing the details of the trade and the party truly started then. Fans went home knowing that this offense would be competing to be the best in the league next season.
LeClair left for Montreal the next day, knowing that he’d be back in Baltimore in a couple of weeks for training camp and pre-season.

Six seasons ago, Eric Kennedy had the thrill of being drafted by the Yellowknife Wraiths. It was a moment that would lead to many opportunities, but at the time, the future didn’t look so bright. Back then, the DSFL hadn’t yet been formed and prospects were gauged by their performances in prospect games. After being treated like a star at the college level, Kennedy found himself in over his head as a prospect and wasn’t able to hold up to scrutiny without the support of a traditional team environment.

On some level, Kennedy had given up. There was still a chance of being drafted, but he knew that he was at the back of the pack and it was going to be a long night either way. The 12th round came and Kennedy prepared for the worst. But then the call came. He was being drafted by the Yellowknife Wraiths. It wasn’t a big opportunity, but it was an opportunity nonetheless. He would only be a fullback and back-up to the former S1 MVP Bubba Nuck, but he made the most of it, going on to serve several roles of different varieties during his time with the team. Now, he enters the S8 season as the team’s top Wide Receiver. And it all started on that one fateful night.

I was drafted in Season 3. I was not a very well known player, but I had many friends and family around me who were rooting for me the whole way through. This lead to me having a large draft party. We celebrated the draft in the comfort of my own home. We had a lot of food and were all seated around my family's small TV. Although this isn't the best setup, it was made up from being surrounded by all my family and friends. When I was drafted it was before the DSFL was required for new draftees, so everyone was focused on the NSFL draft. My party lasted a long time, since I was very well known I didn't get drafted until the third round. Everyone around me knew that I wouldn't be an early draft pick, so for the first 2 rounds we sat around just enjoying the other prospects get drafted. Once my name was called everyone around me was super excited. Being drafted into one of the playoff contenders for season 4, the Baltimore Hawks, was super exciting. It was one of the most exciting and best times of my life. Throughout the years to come I would meet many new and great people in the Hawks locker room, until I would finally retire after season 7.
