My thought though was more of like a "pension" type approach where players can carry over minimal TPE based on NSFL years of service. It would keep the money aspect out of it but may possibly prevent players from retiring and recreating as frequently. I never really calculated out a reasonable balance therefore it was never proposed but my initial thought was something like 5 TPE for each year played in the NSFL starting after year 5. A player that plays 10 seasons then recreates would get an additional 25 TPE, which is helpful but not a crippling advantage over a newer player.
I actually really like this idea except that at some point keeping an existing player in the league doesn't really benefit the league. If you are regressed down to DSFL level, should we continue to reward that with extra TPE?

Because GMs generally just want to hand over money and keep players, rather than making shrewd decisions and sometimes, having to make difficult ones. Why would any GM WANT to make a tough decision?

It was a guess. I know you're typically ahead of the curve. TBH, I'll hit 1000 TPE this season making $2M a year and I am signed through S8. I'm still for fixing the contract situation.

Durden is basically my echo for the past 2 seasons. :towel: I've been trying for contract reform but I represent 1/13 of the league votes and its an uphill battle.

Yup - I'm at over 1,000 TPE and makin 1M this season. I think it's ridiculous - I've tried to fix it but teams don't want it, maybe this offseason :dontcare:

You reach a point where losing 200+ TPE to regression isn't worth an extra 5 TPE when recreating. You just need to decide if you are a Kurt Warner and retire early or a Brett Favre and fight for every season you think you'll be effective.
