After being in the top 3 of my groups for the last three fantasy seasons, I came into S18 expecting to maintain the good streak. Looking at how things are going so far, my number one pick, RB Gump has not disappointed; during draft day, I wanted to grab Torenson again, since last season he was one of the best players for my team. Obviously, he was off the list pretty early. I was glad that with the 5th overall pick Gump was available and he has been a stud with the crazy numbers he has been producing which put him into MVP discussion (1017 yards and 9 TDs, first in the league for both stats. 139 fantasy points); he has quickly become the centerpiece of my team. For draft day, I like to follow a strategy of adding one good player for each position between RB, WR, TE and QB per round. So to compliment Gump, I added WR Maddox (8th overall) and QB Havran (14th). Maddox is performing similar to last season but who really surprises me is his quarterback, taking into account that before the start of the season both Bigsby and Reese were considered the top options at the position. At this point, Havran is at the top 3 on yards, touchdowns and passer rating, with a fantasy score close to the one of Gump.
Of course, not everyone on my team looks good and I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in my flex player and defense. RB Taffy had a decent S17 season, so I thought he could have similar numbers this time around; it hasn't been good for him with just 503 rushing yards and 1 touchdown, as well as 300 passing yards and a touchdown so far (56 fantasy points). Also, it doesn't help that he's sharing the position with fellow rookie RB Vincent. The other underperformer is the SaberCats defense, which has pretty solid players but their offense just doesn't produce much after QB Christ retirement. I hope that fantasy wise, my team can maintain its pace for at least a victory in my group.
This is my 5th season playing National Simulation Football League Fantasy Football. My first season I finished #2 in my group. Since then I haven't been able to place again. I'm looking to change that this year, and am in a position to finish 1st in my group for the season 18 National Simulation Football League Fantasy Football season. I am currently have a 15 point lead on 2nd place thanks to my greata picks of Corvo Havran, Yellowknife Wraiths Defense, and my tight end Johnny Blaze. Recently I made a few big waivers changes. I dropped San Jose running back Toriki to pick up Yellowknife Wraiths running back Jerod Canton, and I dropped Austin Wide Receiver Django Anoia for Philadelphia LIberty wide receiver Bonaberi Jones. I hope I spelt the names of those players correctly. I am also hoping that they prove to be fantasy winning decisions. Jerod Canton should continue to be producing huge numbers through the receiving game. Yellowknife also have to play last place San Jose still where their defense should get some huge point boost. As for Corvo Havran, Baltimore has finished their 5 game road stretch, and should put up huge numbers now that the Hawks will be at home for 4 of their last 6 games.
On paper, my fantasy team should've been good this year. I drafted 2 time RBotY Sam Torenson in the first round, Ultimus MVP Franklin Armstrong, and the S17 TEotY Cameron Olsen. So far, Armstrong and Torenson have been phenomenal, with them currently being at 8th and 3rd respectively in total fantasy points. However, Olsen has taken a giant step back, with a measly 21.3 total points. Rookie WR Saba Donut has been a pleasant surprise with 56 points and the Hawks defense is doing me just fine so far. For me to win my group, I would need to score 169 more points to catch Beaver, who is currently in second across the entire league, in large part due to his drafting of Forrest Gump who is in the midst of a possible MVP/OPOY season. In fact, 3 of the top 5 fantasy teams in the league have Gump on them. I was not able to draft Gump since he went 1OA, but I was happy with my team nonetheless. I am no longer happy with my team but there is still 5 games to play and maybe I can make a run for the top 3. Maybe Franklin Armstrong will bring some of that Ultimus fire back for the rest of the season and the Otters will still lose out .
It's a shame that I was too late to the party to join NSFL Fantasy for this season, because I would've won it easily. But it's ok, best believe I will be there next year!
Since I'm not invested in the NSFL side of things this season really, I haven't been paying much attention to stats in the big leagues, and have been entirely focused on how the Kansas City Coyotes are performing in the DSFL.
Of course, there's no DSFL incarnation of fantasy, but for the purpose of this PT, lets pretend there is.
Who are the standouts from KC and how would they be doing in a fantasy league?
To be honest, QB Brock Phoenix really isn't standing out much. Thats ok, because he's still having a decent season and the Coyotes are playing .500 ball, but from a fantasy standpoint there isn't much there.
Orien Drake, however, is the top running back in the league, and therefore would be a prime fantasy workhorse just as he is in real life. He is tied for the league lead with 9 touchdowns, and he has almost 300 yards more than ANY OTHER running back in the DSFL. (Thats actually crazy!) Drake is putting up #1 fantasy pick numbers.
Then, there's me. I'm not really standing out much, but if I am back in the DSFL next season, I'll do everything in my power to put up crazy numbers and lead Kansas City to an Ultimini!
Written Option: Fantasy Season is up and running. We have some steals and busts. We have some stars and some surprises. Write about how the season has gone so far from a fantasy football perspective. If you play fantasy, write about your team, if you don’t write about who on your NSFL team is a standout or a dud. If you are in DSFL, you can write about what players on your team would be fantasy starts if we did it for DSFL. I’m pretty open to how you want to do this, it just needs to relate to sim league Fantasy Football in some way.
My fantasy season has been less than stellar so far and when I say it has been less than stellar I mean that it has been pretty freaking bad. I made decent picks in Mako Mendonca as a flex and Adriana Falconi for quarterback as they currently have 91 and 86 points respectively. Now we have to get to the disappointments of my fantasy team unfortunately. After a crazy good season in season 17, running back Apollo Reed currently has 37 points. My first round pick has... 37 points. Follow that up with wide receivers Fyodorovich and Landers combining for like 52 points total or something like that. Honestly, Peter Larson at tight end has been okay in terms of points for tight ends. He currently has just under 27 while guys like Olsen and Irving have like 21 and 22 respectively. Obviously not on the level of guys like Blaze, but he hasn't been the worst option ever. Crisco at kicker has been okay as well. All-in-all, my skill positions just weren't up to snuff this season. My starting running back and wide receivers just haven't produced at a level to even keep me in the race while Falconi and Mendonca are doing whatever they can to not make it a total embarrassment. I should probably start using the waiver wire in fantasy instead of just running with the same team the entire season.
Havran is looking to be the best QB fantasy pick in the league and only in his second year. If he wasn't your leagues first overall QB taken the guy who took the first overall QB taken wishes he picked him. He's pumping out incredible numbers on a team that's posting an incredibly high pass to rush play ratio. the only QB close to him is running almost 30 more attempts but only 6 more competitions. Bigsby on the Yellowknife wraiths may be on a team having a better time but hes definitely not having a better time out there. He's thrown 2 more interceptions has 2 less touchdowns 11 less large gains and to top it off has 90 less yards on the year. Cole on the Austin copperheads has the same kind of extra stats (one more touchdown) but a fourth less yards is such a drop that hes nowhere near the conversation for top QB in the league. The competition for number one overall isn't really a conversation. Forest gump and torki are going to be the players your fantasy league winner has and there really shouldn't be any other ending to your league or maybe even this point task.
